Netflix’s new feature Moments has been introduced so that users can bookmark, rewatch, and share their favorite moments from shows but that is not all. To some this feature seems like a scheme for something else, it would help not only discourage people from taking screenshots but also promote clip farming on the site and related shows.

Varietyreleased an article about Netflix’s new feature, explaining in detail what it means for users. Moments would allow viewers to save and rewatch their favorite clips from shows on the site.

With Moments, members can quickly bookmark a scene while watching on their phone, saving it directly to their My Netflix tab for easy access later.

Makes sense. Clips get taken regardless. This is just a way to get people to link back to their platform more often.

It’s a clever way to market their content too. Instead of slapping people with copyright strikes.

Hulu had this functionality when it first launched. I’m guessing it wasn’t a success.

While it may seem like a cash-grab attempt from the platform, many users quickly figured out the alleged real purpose. Fans noted that the initiative could counter illegal screenshots and sharing of clips from the streaming service.

Some fans also commented that this feature could enable clip farming in Netflix shows and movies. This trend basically refers to intentional messing up in front of the camera or staging reactions that could be click-bait-worthy. Only time will prove if the new feature helps enhance the user’s experience on the platform or not.
