Eiichiro Oda, mysteries andOne Piecego hand in hand. Most plotlines in the story are glazed with layers of mysteries that unravel one at a time over a span of years. In the end, the results always prove to be worth the wait. One such mystery in the story right now is Imu Sama. An enigmatic entity shrouded in questions, but from the first appearance itself, the wheels started turning in the fans’ head.

Many fans have come up with intriguing theories regarding the identity and real appearance of the character. From a chess-related power to a paintbrush, many theories have emerged in the fandom. However, one of these theories not only seems plausible but also something that screams Oda. If this theory hits the mark, we might get the biggest ‘sike’ moment of the manga, that far surpasses the goofiness of Gear 5 Luffy.
Speculations and Theories on Imu’s Powers
All we know about Imu Sama so far is that they are a menace. Their throne is synonymous to their positioning in the world ofOne Piece. The character’s real appearance is known to very few characters, and Sabo is the only surprising one among them. With the scarce information, some reddit users have come up with interesting theories that don’t seem as far-fetched. Thefirst theorysuggests that Imu Sama’s powers are related to ink or they wield the Ink fruit.

Their powers could involve rewriting or blotting out the history, which would explain why some colossal events are absent from the historical records. The theory further delves into the origin of the fruit and its connection to Luffy’s devil fruit. With his rubber-themed fruit, Luffy could potentially threaten the ink of Imu Sama. Although, the most intriguing part of the theory is the importance of Poneglyphs.
Since they are carved in stone, instead of being written down, Imu Sama doesn’t have the power to erase or alter them. Many users agreed with this theory and it’s evident why that was the case. With this theory at the back of our mind, Imu Sama’s appearance might start resembling that of a brush. This makes one question if that was reallyEiichiro Oda’sintention with the silhouette.

Earlier it was believed that the silhouette resembled the queen in the game of chess. Having a chess-themed devil fruit would have gone well with Imu Sama’s personality. The character is known to be the mastermind and the way they brutally erase the existence of humans, everything seems like a game for them.
Eiichiro Oda’s Reference to his Own One-Shot
Another theorysuggests the same powers but with a different reasoning. In 1993, Oda’s one-shot titled‘God’s Gift for the Future’was published in the Monthly Shonen Jump. The story of the one-shot is based around a man named Bran and a god. The god uses the Ink of Fate to determine the fate of humans, and there’s a Rubber (eraser) of Fate. This dynamic parallels Luffy and Imu Sama’s potential powers, according to the theory.

With that, both the theories are extremely well-crafted and align with everything we have seen so far in the story. However, it needs to be considered that Oda has been quite adamant about defying fan theories. So, his idea for Imu Sama might exceed all expectations.
