Game of Thronesfans are already frustrated with George R.R. Martin’s still-unfinishedThe Winds of Winter, and they might get even more enraged when they find out there are more stories that he could explore. Unfortunately, he’s not getting any younger so they will now remain unwritten and unpublished.

In 2018, Martin releasedFire & Blood, the history of the Targaryens who ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Within the novel are several accounts that chronicled the adventures, glories, and defeats of not only the royalties but also of other notable figures. In short, there were stories within stories.
George R.R. Martin Could Have Written More Book Series About The Targaryens
It’s no secret whyGeorge R.R. Martinhasn’t finished writingThe Winds of Winter. He’s busy with so many other things, including the production of severalGame of Thronesspinoffs, but he was able to writeFire & Bloodwhile the HBO series was still ongoing.
“I actually get very angry when I hear things like that”: Kit Harington Was Furious When Game of Thrones Fans Kept Fueling a Rumor About George R.R. Martin
Apparently, he was struggling with the forthcoming sixth novel, and he found it easier to write the prequel novel because he already had the knowledge in his head. The book was written like a historical account, and while it has all the details, it only had a few character dialogues. As stated, it was meant to resemble a historical text.
That being said, Martin revealed in his interview withThe Guardianthat “there are novels buried in it”, pertaining to the stories inFire & Blood. He could still expand those stories into full-blown novels only if he still has more time.

“If I were 30 years younger I could easily write a series about the Dance of the Dragons,” he noted. In fact, he could also write an entire novel aboutAegon’s Conquestand every single one of Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s thirteen children.
“He has an impact on the story all out of proportion to his size”: George R.R. Martin Hates How House of the Dragon Forgot An Important Targaryen That Will Now Affect Later Seasons Badly
That would have been epic if he managed to do so, but he is already struggling to finish his upcoming book. It seems easier for him, though, to work on those topics because he’s already envisioned them in his mind long beforeFire & Bloodwas published.
Latest Update OnThe Winds of Winter
Since fans cannot expect these exciting Targaryen stories to come to fruition anytime soon, only the release ofThe Winds of Winteris bound to happen, at least, what Martin has told his readers in an update from hisblog.
When WINDS OF WINTER is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement.

This was his major update, but he still could not say when and where it would be revealed. He went on to share about the rigorous and demanding process of publishing books, traveling to all corners of the globe to meet his agents, and forging or renewing connections.
While we all wait for his upcoming novel, the prequel seriesA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knightwill keep fans occupied next year.

Game of Thronesis currently available to watch on HBO.
