In the past three decades, theFalloutseries has successfully cemented its place as one of the most popular post-apocalyptic role-playing video games of all time. Thanks to its massive success, a TV show based on the series was also released on Amazon Prime recently. Since its first game,Fallout(1997), the series has drastically changed but the franchise hasn’t lost its core element, making it very popular among the fans.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel

So far, fans have got nineFalloutgames across many different consoles, and one may assume that their first game would be the shortest in terms of runtime. However, that’s not the case. As for the longestFalloutgame, it is only 1/4th of the time it takes to obtain 100% completion of FromSoftware’sElden Ring. Here, we have ranked everyFalloutgame depending on the time it takes to complete it:

9)Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel– 8 Hours

2004’sFallout: Brotherhood of Steelwas the fourth video game set in theFalloutuniverse. The gameplay was very different since it was a spin-off of the main series.

At the time of its release, the game was criticized for its linear playing experience as it took away the open-world experience, something thatFalloutwas known for back then. With only 8 hours of runtime, it is the shortest game in the franchise.

8)Fallout Shelter– 15 Hours

Fallout Shelterwas another spin-off that was criticized for its gameplay. The game was initially released on iOS and Android devices in 2015.

One year later, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 players finally got to experience the game, only to be disappointed. It is often criticized for its unnecessary microtransactions.

7)Fallout– 16.5 Hours

The first game of the franchise,Fallout, was praised for its open-ended gameplay, character system, plot, and setting. Without a doubt, this game played a key role in popularising post-apocalyptic role-playing video games. Released by Interplay Entertainment, the game featured turn-based combat rather than real-time combat which players get to see in modernFalloutgames.

6)Fallout 3– 22.5 Hours

The third major installment in theFalloutseries was a crucial game for the franchise as it was the first game developed by Bethesda. With the use of 3D graphics and real-time combat, the game was a massive jump from 1998’sFallout 2.

Fallout 3provided stiff competition to other open-world games that were released at the time. The game was a massive success and won various Game of the Year awards.

5)Fallout 4– 27 Hours

The last game in the mainFalloutseries,Fallout 4, was, and still is quite popular among the gaming community. With this game, Bethesda was successfully able to carry forward the core elements ofFalloutgames but at the same time, made sure that the game felt fresh. It was also the first game in the series to feature a fully-voiced protagonist. The game received many prestigious awards and was quite profitable for the studios.

4)Fallout: New Vegas– 27.5 Hours

SinceFallout: New Vegaswas announced afterFallout 3, the expectations were quite high but since it was a spin-off, the chatter about the game was next to nothing. Fortunately, the game went on to be a commercial success for developers Obsidian Entertainment.

In terms of gameplay, it proved to be fun to play for gamers.  However, bugs and glitches were a major problem that many gamers faced.

3)Fallout 2– 30.5 Hours

Thanks to the massive success of 1997’sFallout, there was a lot of pressure on the creators as fans were eagerly waiting for a sequel. The result was 1998’sFallout2which featured similar graphics and game mechanics as its predecessor. Thankfully, the game was able to meet the set expectations and paved the way for future Fallout games.

The game was particularly praised for offering players three different modes of combat: Individual Turn-Based, Continuous Turn-Based, and Squad Turn-Based.

1)Fallout 76– 34 Hours

Finally, the longestFalloutgame is 2018’sFallout 76with 34 hours of playtime. Serving as a prequel to previous entries,Fallout 76is often cited as one of the worst games in the series. Nonetheless, the game was pivotal for Bethesda Game Studios as it was their first multiplayer game.

Unfortunately, players ignored the 34-hour playtime because of how stale the game felt. The game was bombarded with negative reviews, but with the release of Wastelanders expansion, the experience was slightly improved.
