Eiichiro Oda’sOne Pieceis full of mysteries and plot twists. Supposedly dead characters re-emerge at the most unexpected moments, and sometimes Oda scatters around undetectable Easter Eggs for big reveals. But one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the series at the moment is regarding the current status of Kaido and Big Mom.

Both Kaido and Big Mom were monumental villains inOne Piecebefore they faced defeat. While Kaido was defeated by the emergence of Luffy’s Fifth Gear, Law, and Kidd combined their force to drown Big Mom in magma. Yet, the author never confirmed if the antagonists are dead or not.
What happened to the Devil Fruits of Kaido and Big Mom?
Devil Fruits maintain a cycle of reincarnation. Once a Devil Fruit user dies, the ability is reborn into a new Devil Fruit at random, and it can be anywhere in the world. The one who eats this fruit will gain the power as its latest user. For example, after the death of Ace, Sabo became the new user of the Mera Mera no Mi.
Kaido’s Devil Fruit is the Uo Uo no Mi: Seiryu, a Mythical Zoan-type fruit that allows its user to transform into an Azure Dragon. It is also described as the strongest class of Devil Fruit in the manga. Big Mom’s Devil Fruit is the Soru Soru no Mi, a Paramecia-type fruit that allows her to interact with and manipulate souls. Big Mom caused a lot of devastation with the power of her Devil Fruit.

But what happened to these fruits, considering both Kaido and Big Mom are dead? Their respective Devil Fruits should have reincarnated in a random place in the world already. But you need to consider that Devil Fruits are extremely rare to find. It is entirely possible that the Uo Uo no Mi: Seiryu and Soru Soru no Mi have not been eaten by anyone yet.
Even if they have been consumed, it might not have been by an evil pirate. On the off chance that the Devil Fruits were indeed eaten by a potential enemy, it might take years if not decades to develop the power of the fruits, and even then they might not achieve the level of expertise that either Kaido or Big Mom had. But all of this is considering that the villains are actually dead and not just bidding their time off-screen.

Are Kaido and Big Mom dead or alive in Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piece?
Eiichiro Odahas been a real piece of work by not revealing the statuses of Big Mom and Kaido. While they have been defeated, their deaths have not been confirmed. If the characters are not dead yet, there is no question of their Devil Fruits being reincarnated and possessed by someone else.
Neither Kaido nor Big Mom’s dead bodies were shown in the series after their deaths. Eiichiro Oda also refrained from announcing their deaths in the anime or manga. However, both got drowned in the pit of an active volcano, so maybe the bodies weren’t shown since they got charred into oblivion.

Given Eiichiro Oda’s track record with fake deaths, fans have a legitimate reason to believe that both Kaido and Big Mom might still be alive. Additionally,Luffy has not explicitly killed anyonein the series yet, so if Kaidou is dead, that would serve as a taint on the character. Alternatively, Oda could have gotten rid of the characters just because they were too powerful and would have served as huge hindrances in the final war.
One Piecemanga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
