The scorching sands of Arrakis are an unforgiving place even in the best of times, but one way to make your life considerably worse inDune: Awakeningis to neglect one of the game’s most important resources: water.

While you’re able to temporarily sustain yourself by licking the dewdrops off the small patches of weeds throughout the desert, this really isn’ta good long-term strategy for survival. Sooner or later, you’re going to have to come up with a system for efficiently gathering and storing large amounts of water, all the while ensuring you have enough for your personal survival needs.

How can I survive off of grass and dropped frames?

In addition to your own water consumption, many advanced items and materials in the game will also consume vast amounts of water, so making sure you’ve mastered the pipeline is crucial to surviving on the desert planet.

In this guide, we will cover how to gather and store water, which tools are required to do so, and how you’re able to also convert blood into water for both consumption and crafting.

How To Use A Literjon

The first thing you’ll need to do before attempting to collect water is craft an object to store it. The Literjon is designed for this purpose and you can drink from it at any time to restore your hydration levels. Additionally, you can use the Literjon to deposit and transfer water between cisterns and different bases, but we’ll get to that later. For now, all you need to do ismake sure that you have a Literjon in your inventory at all times.

You can purchase blueprints for a high-capacity unique Literjob called Hajra’s Literjob from the Griffin’s Reach Outpost, the first outpost you’ll come across in the starting area of Hagga Basin South. It is well worth making this purchase before moving on to other areas, as this extra water capacity can go a long wayin terms of both survival and crafting.

you’re able to also place your Literjon in a quick access slot and drink from it whenever you like, or alternatively you can leave it in your inventory and manually drink from it when you please.

So that’s Literjons out of the way. How about actually getting the water to fill them up?

How To Collect Water

There are two basic methods for gathering water in Dune: Awakening. The first is to drink and harvest drops of dew from plants such as Primrose Fields. To do this efficiently, you will first need to craft a Dew Scythe or a Dew Reaper.

This can be done through the basic Fabricator, one of the most important Utilities in your entire base.Remember that before unlocking any new gadgets or tools, you will first need to research them by using the Research tab in the character menu.

When you’ve constructed your first Scythe, you can gather dew droplets from any available source. Keep in mind that the optimal time to harvest dew is just before sunrise. Doing so at other times in the day will yield much less water as the dew will evaporate by then.

Alternatively, you can steal water from the various facilities in the game, such as Imperial Testing Stations. While the containers there won’t provide much water individually, there are often so many of them that it can easily fill a Literjon or two, and it’s worth ensuring you carryevery drop possible before returning to base.

Once you’ve filled your Literjons to their maximum, make sure to drop off the contents in a Water Cistern inside your base. That way the water you have collected can be stored for later use and crafting. Just make sure you keep enough on hand to hydrate yourself before heading out again.

How To Purify Blood

The alternative, less efficient and less glamorous way to obtain water is by purifyingthe harvested blood of your enemies. While this method requires slightly more equipment and can take a longer time, it’s a great way to ensure that you have a constant supply of water being produced at your base.

The first thing you’ll need is a Blood Extractor which can be crafted in the character menu, and you’ll also need a Small Blood Sack to store it. The Small Blood Sack can only hold up to 3,000 ml of blood, but that’s enough to get started and should see you comfortably through the first few areas.

To extract the blood, you’ll need to equip the Blood Extractor and approach the body of an enemy. If they have enough to extract, the crosshair will turn green. Over time, however, bodies will begin to dry up and their extractable blood content will be gradually reduced. If you’re really in dire straits, you can drink the blood directly from the Blood Sack, but it will not hydrate you as efficiently as normal water.

Once you’ve got your vampiric fill, you can bring back your filled Blood Sack and deposit the contents in a Blood Purifier. To unlock the Blood Purifier you need to research the Blood Exsanguination Kit, which will then let you craft it for 70 Salvaged Metal.

To use the Blood Purifier, interact with it and press the Deposit Blood button. It will take a while, but gradually the machine will filter through the blood and convert it into pure water. You can then extract the water for your Literjob or Cisterns, or drink it directly if you’re really that desperate.

As you level up and progress through the game, you can upgrade the Blood Extractor, Blood Sacks, and Blood Purifier to store larger quantities and purify them more efficiently. It might be a bit morbid, but this method will become very important as you progress through the game and require more water for crafting.
