One of the most beloved — or at least recognizable — background characters from Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise made a big impression at theTokyo Game Show, popping up as a playable character for its next big game,Dragon Ball: The Breakers, which is set to release October 14. The trailer also gives a first glimpse at several forms taken by destructive powerhouse Majin Buu, butBandai Namcohad already announced his playability in the game, leaving the unnamed farmer with a shotgun to take center stage for the trailer.

The Breakers will differ from the typical hyper-powered, one-on-one fighting fare of other Dragon Ball games, as players will square off inone-on-seven contests, with the solo player taking on the role of a powerful raider and the others, hopelessly underpowered, just trying to escape or somehow overwhelm their opponent with in-game weapons and vehicles. The survivors will be able to choose from a variety of different skins for their avatars, including lesser series heroes like Tien, Bulma, and Oolong. The game will be receiving an open beta test on current and past-gen consoles and PC from September 21 to September 24, with both Frieza and Cell available as playable raiders.

The farmer, who makes his living raising pink ostrich-like animals, makes his initial appearance early inDragon Ball Zand is the first person the series' first villain, Raditz, encounters when he arrives to conquer earth. Raditz scans the farmer with a face-mounted scouter, revealing his comparably pathetic power level of five. By comparison, the farmer’s opponent in the trailer, Buu, has a power level of between 10 billion and 560 trillion, depending on his form.

Now, if all you know aboutDragon Ball’spower levels is from the “It’s Over 9,000” meme, this might not mean much to you. Put simply, power levels are a way that some characters classify the overall physical capabilities of themselves and others. A higher power level is not a guarantee of victory, because of the existence of martial skill and tactics, but both the franchise’s heroes and villains have long histories of making expositional statements on each other’s power levels to give readers and viewers an idea of how the fighters are likely to fare against each other and to build dramatic tension. The development team’s decision to feature characters with such vastly different power levels in the new trailer paints a picture of the sense of desperation they’re trying to convey for the survivors.

While not every minor character’s power level is revealed throughout the series, the farmer has become a bit of a celebrity in the fan community for his power level, as the only characters he is known to outrank are literal babies and a turtle. He continued his hapless adventures as a running joke throughout Dragon Ball Z, endearing him to fans similarly toAvatar: The Last Airbender’sCabbage Man. Notably, fans have spotted him accidentally shooting at Dr. Gero during a hunting trip and being blasted into a tree, as well as falling over in surprise at seeing The Great Saiyaman flying by.

And this isn’t the first time the farmer has popped up in a Dragon Ball game. InDrahon Ball Z: Kakarot, which also got a new content trailer at TGS, he encounters Raditz just as he does in the anime, attacking the saiyan with a shotgun before Raditz effortlessly blocks the blast with his hand. The Breakers will, however, be the first time the farmer receives his due as a playable character.
