Dragon Ball DAIMApicked up a shovel trying to bury any past mistakes the franchise made but ended up burying itself in the process. The anime had been trying so hard to not repeat anything wrong done by Akira Toriyama’s works and all the criticism they had previously received. As an attempt to avoid that, the entire anime has turned into a self-fulfilled prophecy of a series of unfortunate events.

I have given it a chance after chance only to find problems that overarch the preceding episodes. From the stories to the questionable digressions, it is all a culmination of trial and error, seeing what works and what doesn’t. For episode 16, the focus had been the main story but somehow, it missed the mark by a landslide. Why name an entire episode after a man who is naught to play an important role for more than five minutes?
The main problem of Dragon Ball DAIMA
You would think that the biggest issue withDragon Ball DAIMAis the younger characters, but no, that doesn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg. Honey, I shrunk the kids and somehow that didn’t save this anime from addressing its biggest problem. The episode should have given Degesu a lot more screen time seeing that it was literally named after him. Most of the anime gets drowned in wasted attempts at humor.
The more something is dragged, the less interesting it will become. ForDAIMA,the climax is so prolonged that it doesn’t seem as interesting anymore. Okay, Goku and his gang are finally facing Dr. Arinsu. Okay, Gomah got the eye and got his upgrade. Okay, Dende is finally with them. So what? None of it brings value to the story anymore because it isn’t just as interesting.

Toei Animation Is the Only Reason Why ‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’ Hasn’t Met Its Bitter Ending
We’re slowly approaching the final showdown yet each episode feels like it’s dragging a story that was begging to end half a season ago. I have no issues with watching an anime that has a childish vibe to it. Some of these works have deeper themes that balance out the former. I fail to understand where those underlying themes are in the show. The next episode looks promising but I don’t want to bring my hopes up after being disappointed over and over again.
Suffocation by too many characters
The number of charactersDragon Ball DAIMAhas seemingly brought about makes it impossible for all of them to be actively present throughout the story if not add some cathartic and significant value to the overall series. Degesu should have been the focus of the episode but somehow he wasn’t even part of half of it. I must say I liked Panzy saving baby Dende. It felt heroic and fun. I had a lot of hopes for Degesu. He seemed like a character who could have and should have been explored more, especially with his connection to the Supreme Kai.
Instead, Panzy steals Dende back, and Piccolo gets to beat him till he’s defeated. This is an almost evident problem throughout the series. There are too many characters to balance the entire thing out. Initially, it was only Goku, Glorio, Supreme Kai, and Panzy. The team was fine on its own, and each character was getting an opportunity to grow. A lot of their problems could have been solved if Vegeta, Bulma, and Piccolo weren’t set to join them since there would have been too many characters to balance.

A New Record Is Made: Dragon Ball Z Beating Super and DAIMA Despite Ending Almost 30 Years Ago Proves It’s Akira Toriyama’s Greatest Work
Now there is Dr. Arinsu, the useless version of the Ginyu Force, Gomah who finally will act like the villain and not just a child with tantrums, and a whole bunch of heroes that would be sidelined at the end of the day. It is, first and foremost, Goku’s show. It would make sense for him to be the one to give the final blow and he most likely would. That being said, so many characters being established when we know for a fact that not much would happen to them in the future just feels like a waste.
