The Swedish powerhouse has carved out a legacy for himself in the entertainment industry by playing both relentless heroes and stoic bad guys. His talents aren’t quite limited to the screen, though. With a brain as sharp as his punches, Dolph Lundgren holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering as well as a black belt in Kyukushin. Clearly, the man is a master of all trades.

Thus, when he announced last year that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015, his fans were absolutely heartbroken. What’s even more shattering was that he was initially told he only had a few years left to live. Now, almost a decade later, Dolph Lundgren is alive and kicking and he just had the final surgery to remove his tumor.
News No Cancer Patient Wants to Hear
In 2023,Dolph Lundgrensat down in an interview forIn Depth with Graham Bensingerwhere he revealed to the world that he had been fighting cancer for eight years. He was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015 and while surgery ended up with him being symptom-free for five years, things took a harsh turn when he was in Sweden.
It was then revealed that Lundgren had additional tumors both in his kidney and liver areas. Needless to say, cancer is no joke. Not only does it take a toll on a patient’s physical health but their mental health takes a hit too. It takes someone every cell in their body to hold on to hope, even when the future seems bleak.

Later, theRocky IVactor was put under the care of a doctor in London but was told that he only had about 2-3 years left in his lifetime. Now that’s something we don’t wish on our worst enemies.
In the interview, he recalls the conversation stating,

When I got to London, they had a really good guy there who was put in charge of my care…it was a lot worse than we thought and he kind of started talking about all these different tumors like, in the lung, in the stomach, and the spine, outside the kidneys. He started saying these things like, ‘You should probably take a break and spend more time with your family and so forth. So I kind of asked him you know, ‘How long do you think I’ve got left and he said, I think he said 2-3 years but I could tell in his voice that he probably thought it was less.
Despite the heart-wrenching revelation, Lundgren tried to retain his positivity. He remembered thinking how he had lived a good life but felt sad and bitter for his kids and his then-fiancé, Emma Krokdal. He and Krokdal are now married.

Things Have Turned Around for Dolph Lundgren
Two days ago, Lundgren logged into his Instagram where he posted a video of himself in hospital attire and stated that he was about to go into surgery. The surgery was meant to remove the tumor from his body, once and for all.

As per Lundgren, the doctors have confirmed that there are no more cancer cells in his body and that the surgery would mean that he is officially cancer-free.
The actor stated that he was looking forward to the procedure and went on to talk about what the rough patch of his life taught him. The beacon of positivity, Lundgren admitted that his journey with cancer taught him“how to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of life.”
