Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collectionwas released earlier today, and while the re-release is off to a pretty rocky start, it is being praised by players for its graphical upgrade.

The Classic Collectionwas announced on February 21during Nintendo’s most recent Direct showcase, where Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr confirmed that both Star Wars Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) would be introduced to a new generation when it launched for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on March 14.

While the announcement didn’t confirm any graphical upgrades, Aspyr did say that the Classic Collection “features restored online play for up to 64 players, expansions to Hero Assault mode, and all previously released bonus content for both titles.” Unfortunately, its release earlier today has been blasted by fans, mainly due to a lack of server support.

At the time of writing this article, Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection has a ‘mostly negative’ review rating on Steam, with over 1,800 user reviews. Many of the complaints note that there were only 3 servers available at launch, despite being a highly-anticipated re-release. After reportedly adding more servers after launch, players then said they were “terrible,” with bad ping and stuttering issues.

Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection Praised For Graphical Upgrades

Over on the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit, userbillonelshared multiple screenshots comparing the original titles and the recent re-releases. you’re able to check out the images for yourself below. While not mind-blowing, there’s a clear improvement with some much-needed texture and lighting improvements to give the games a more modern feel.

Fellow players were incredibly impressed by the upgrade, with Reddit useridiotinpowerarmorsaying that the marketing “doesn’t do the texture and lighting work justice.” Another user called it the ideal sort of remaster.

“Looks like the ideal kind of remaster. Looks how you remember it looking but when you put them back to back you see how much it has been improved,” Reddit userMickeymous15said.

It’s fair to say that there’s definitely a significant upgrade in graphics, even for a title that isn’t technically a remaster. Sadly, the improvements will remain unnoticed by the Star Wars community until Aspyr works on implementing more server stability and fixing the many bugs that have already been reported by players.
