Initially shown with a stylish trailer and a unique premise, the upcomingDeathloopfrom Arkane Studios–the makers of theDishonoredseries andPrey–has been among the more high-profile releases scheduled for the end of this year. The game’s core idea featuring a pair of assassins rewinding time to execute the perfect hit made it an anticipated release alongside the next-gen consoles this holiday season. However, like a few other upcoming AAA releases in the past few weeks,Deathloopwill be pushed back a bit to allow for some additional development time.
Developer Arkane Studios posted an official statement thatÂDeathloopwill be delayed until early next year from its original release window in late 2020. According to the studio, the primary cause of the delay has been the shift to working remotely in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with Arkane stating that development is “taking longer than normal” to deliverÂDeathloopat the “quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience.”
In light of the delay (and to keep its staff’s health and safety in mind), Arkane detailed that it is aiming to releaseÂDeathloopin Q2 2020. The studio added that with the extra development time, Arkane is planning to bringDeathloopto players “with as much character and fun as you’ve come to expect from our team,” and that a new update on the game will be “coming soon.”
Arkane’s title is the most recent high-profile delay for a game set to release this year after last week’s news thatÂHalo Infinitewould also be delayed into next year. Given the continuing uncertainty and challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic, it’s not entirely unrealistic that we may end up seeing a few other major releases end up being shifted into next year. However, Arkane’s next title still seems like an incredibly promising one, and hopefully we won’t have too wait too much longer to see it fully-realized.
Deathloopwill release for PS5 and PC in Q2 2020.
