The upcoming re-release of Days Gone isn’t just a simple remaster where we get better tech performance and Bend Studio calls it a day. While the gamewillfeature upgraded visuals and the like, that’s not all it’s bringing to the table.

If you’ve played the game before, Day Gone Remastered will unleash new modes that will make you question how good you are at the zombie game.

Days Gone Remastered’s New Modes Might Make Players Asses Their Anger

One of the new modes in the game is calledHorde Assault, which is the game’s survival arcade mode. It you dug messing around zombie hordes and finding new ways to eliminate large groups of the undead, then this is for you. Kevin McAllister, Creative and Product Lead at Bend Studio, discussed the project, stating that they took everything Bend had in the story mode, built upon it, and evolved the concept by addressing the challenges they released post-launch.

In Horde Assault, players will have big open regions where you’ll face a bunch of hordes, which are coming from different angles. Players will see hordes at new locations than where you saw them in the story, adding a little bit of a surprise. Not only that, but hordes at familiar locations will be even bigger.

Days Gone Horde

McAllister comments, “Horde Assault gives you all the tools at your disposal from the start. New players can jump in and play it right away, and they can experience the core, open world gameplay of Days Gone, but now you’re having the maxed out motorcycle with you, and some new weapons, too. There’s also human enemies alongside evolved Freakers like breakers, reachers, and screamers. It’s a lot more chaotic, but it’s the true Days Gone gameplay experience. It’s a really cool and fun mode, and I think fans are really going to enjoy it.”

Another new mode included in the remastered edition of the game isSpeedrun mode, which is pretty self-explanatory. Players who try the Speedrun mode can try it on any of the difficulties. There’s also an on-screen timer that will pause during cinematics (thank god!). Each time a player goes through it, it records their time next to the difficulty they’re playing on. At the end of the speedrun, you’ll get a special graphic showcasing detailed stats showing how well you did.

Finally, there’s the hardest mode out of the three, and it’s Permadeath mode. As the name implies, once your character dies, it ends your journey. There are no saved data to recover, no checkpoints, no nothing.

McAllister says the players are the ones to thank for healing the team cook up this mode. “Permadeath mode was implemented because of community feedback. It’s actually something we wanted as far back as 2019, so this was the perfect opportunity to add it. We’ve seen players create videos doing things like trying to go through a whole run taking no damage at all, only using the very weak boot knife. Well, what’s the ultimate challenge? Deathless. So now, you’re really getting that true survival experience. I think players are going to dig it,” the dev shared.
