D&D Will Feature Eight New & Revised Subclasses Based On Faerun

The playtest document features three returning subclasses and five new ones. The returning ones are the Bladesinger (Wizard,) Knowledge Domain (Cleric,) and the Purple Dragon Knight (Fighter,) while the new ones are the College of the Moon (Bard,) Oath of the Noble Genies (Paladin,) Spellfire Sorcery (Sorcerer,) and the Winter Walker (Ranger.)

College of the Moon Bards use elements of the Druid class, with a folktale-inspired version of Bardic Inspiration that provides buffs, as well as granting them access to the Moonbeam spell.

Knowledge Domain Clerics can spend Channel Divinity to cast one of their Domain Spells without burning a slot. They also gain telepathy as they level up.

Purple Dragon Knight Fighters now take their name literally, as they can summon a small amethyst dragon to aid them in battle, in a similar manner to theDrakewarden Rangerfrom Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons.

Fallout creator Tim Cain has discussed how a D&D art book snubbed one of his games.

Winter Walker Rangers gain cold-based powers, both in terms of damage and resistance. This also includes adding some powerful ice magic to their repertoire.

Scion of the Three Rogues tap into the power of the Dead Three (Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul) as seen in Baldur’s Gate 3. This gives them abilities that let them deal extra damage or terrify their enemies.

Spellfire Sorcery will be familiar to fans of old D&D novels. This is a source of magic connected to the Weave, which can both heal and harm those around the character.

Bladesinger Wizards are still as great as always, combining dance moves with magic and martial prowess. At Level 14, they’ll be throwing out attacks as a Bonus Action after using a spell.

It bears mentioning that these subclasses areall playtest material, which means they could change when they make it to print. Those who like or dislike these iterations should fill out the surveys and let Wizards of the Coast know how they feel.

One of D&D’s most popular species is getting a huge mechanical change in the 2025 Monster Manual.
