Studio Trigger will be returning to Night City. In casethe recently announced prequel mangaisn’t enough forCyberpunk 2077fans, during the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners behind-the-scenes panel at Anime Expo, the animation studio and CD Projekt REDannouncedCyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new standalone anime series following a new group of characters in Night City.
So far, all that’s been shown is the show’s logo andposter art, and the panel where it was all revealed waslivestreamed.
Like the original Edgerunners series, the sequel will be released on Netflix, but no release window was announced.
A ‘Chronicle Of Redemption And Revenge’
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners story writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, who will be returning to those roles along with showrunner for the sequel, was there at the panel to help reveal the new series.
David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio Trigger along for the ride makes us at CD Projekt RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before. – Bartosz Sztybor
While the new series will indeed be animated by Studio Trigger, fans may be disappointed to learn that the similarly legendary director Hiroyuki Imaishi will not be returning to direct it.
He will pass the torch to Kai Ikarashi, who previously worked on the original Edgerunners as well as others, including SSSS.Gridman and the Imaishi-directed Promare as an animation director and key animator, so it’s still in good hands.

CD Projekt Red is ramping up development for Cyberpunk 2.
Also returning for the sequel are lead character designer Kanno Ichigo and scriptwriter Masahiko Otsuka.
