Cyberpunk 2077’sfree DLChas been pushed back a little in order for CD Projekt Red to focus on fixing the game. This news comes as one CD Projekt Red’s co-founders, Marcin IwiÅski, issued a personal apology for theissues that have plagued the gamesince it launched last month.
In a video posted to the official CD Projekt Red andCyberpunk 2077Twitter accounts, IwiÅski takes full responsibility for the state the game released in, saying “Myself and the board are the final decision makers and it was our call to release the game.” In the telling video, he states that the studio will do its best “to regain your trust.”
After breaking down the technical reasons forCyberpunk 2077’smajor issues, IwiÅski states that they “really believed we’d deliver in the final day zero update.” Unfortunately for them, however, their “testing did not show a big part of the issues…” This is the reason for the delay in the review codes for the console editions for the game as they were “fighting for quality on old-gen consoles until the very last minute…”
As withmuch of the industry, CD Projekt Red suffered difficulties from the COVID pandemic, meaning the studio was working from home.
IwiÅski then talks about wanting to fix the bugs and tells fans to “expect bigger and smaller patches on a regular basis.” He follows that by talking about the future ofCyberpunk, referencing both the upcoming free DLC, plus the next-gen upgrades. Of the DLC, he states that:
“Our initial plan was to release them just after the release, much like we did withThe Witcher 3. We decided to focus on the most important fixes and updates first and we’ll be releasing the DLCs afterwards. Expect more information in the upcoming months.”
That suggests that the DLC will be coming later than planned, with no news due for “months.”
CD Projekt Red also still plans to release thefree next-gen upgrade ofCyberpunk 2077in 2021. He says that they are aiming for “the second half of the year.” The full update roadmap is below.
He ends the message once again assuring fans that they are “working hard to make it right” and that they “still want to make amazing games.”
