Cult of the Lamb Review (Nintendo Switch)

A game where the end truly justifies the means

Lamb’s First Miniboss

Thanks to theRelics of the Old Faith update in July 2023, theforgettable minibosses you once fought in your earlier crusades have returned, more aggressive and terrifying than their previous incarnations.

As the first boss introduced in the game, Amdusias is a surprisingly formidable foe, both early and post-game.

Accompanied by his fellow worm minions, this boss can launch ashower of slow-moving corrosive projectiles, forcing you to stay on your toes.

Their most threatening attack is theirdash attack, which can throw off your rhythm if you’re not careful. Even Cult leaders with the sharpest reflexes might have some trouble with this spry worm.

A Thorn In Lamb’s Side

Anchordeep

Much like Amdusias, Saleos is the first regional miniboss, located in thewatery depths of Anchordeep.

This thorny jellyfish hasthree main attack patterns, all of which can be deadly if you’re not careful.

cultofthelamb-004 haborym

Like most regional minibosses, Saleos can summon minions to their aid, specifically, spiky jellyfish that poke you at a surprising speed. These pesky minions can quickly swarm you and put a stop to your crusade if you’re not paying attention to their telegraphed attacks.

Saleos is no slouch, either. Not only do they have the same charging attack, but those attacks can launch alarge ring of fast-moving projectilesat the point of impact.

cultofthelamb-001 leshy

He can also summon a wave of spikes that can catch you off guard if you get too caught up in smacking them with your melee weapon.

Bullet Hell

As the second regional miniboss of Anchordeep, Haborym is a surprisinglytoughfight, as this ugly multi-eyed jellyfish cansummon a neverending hoard of smaller, equally annoying jellyfishto attack you. You might begin to notice that I have a bone to pick with Anchordeep bosses.

Unlike their predecessor Saleos, Haborym can summon two other types of jellyfish–one that acts as explosive mines, and one that charges into you with its horns like a bull.

This miniboss also has analmost unavoidable attack, as they can cover the arena with a spiral of fast projectiles that would require an impossible maneuver to avoid. Haborym can also firericocheting projectilesthat scatter throughout the map, forcing you to be nimble in your dodges.

As you may see in later entries, Anchordeep bosses are probably the worst. Their bullet hell attacks are extremely difficult to avoid with the Lamb’sfixed dash distance.

The First Bishop To Fall

Being thefirst main bossdoesn’t mean that Leshy is just going to roll over and let you kill him. This sandworm-like boss is an ugly sight that screams at you with its gaping maw while summoning a horde of smaller worms to pounce on you.

As the ruler of the Darkwood region, Leshy is theFirst Bishop you slay, meaning that he’sconsiderably weakerthan his siblings. Still, he’s a tough foe if you’re not well-equipped. Hismoveset is a combination of all three minibossesthat you faced prior, including a burrowing attack, acid rain, and lines of spikes.

Leshy’s main threat, however, is the fact that he’s accompanied by several other smaller jumping worms that can quickly overwhelm you. Hisheadbutt attackcan also catch you off guard, as most players can get too caught up in damaging the boss and forgetting to back up.

How Long Does It Take To Beat Cult Of The Lamb

There’s plenty to keep you busy in Cult of the Lamb, here’s how long you can expect to spend playing it.

Silk Cradle

This crazed Bishop spouts strange nonsense, driven insane by the sins of the past. Shamura’s Eldtrich form transforms them into a grotesque, menacing giant spider that will stop at nothing to see you and your Cult destroyed.

As the final Bishop ruling over Silk Cradle and a symbol of war and conquest,Shamura’s boss fight is disappointingly easier than you might expect,as theydon’t have as many tricks up their sleeveas their siblings.

Shamura’smoveset is simple, but their main threat is the fact that they’reextremely aggressivein their attacks, focusing onclose-quarters combat by pouncing and swiping on you relentlessly with their sharp claws, all the while unleashing a circular wave of bullets around them.

Shamura can also zip away on a string of web and reappear to slash at you, and can lob a hail of bombs and acid, which can be easily avoided.

She’s Hungry For Your Blood

As theSecond Bishop of the Old Faith,Heket is the most antagonistic of the Four Bishops, as she gargles empty threats at you while you crusade through Anura despite her debilitating throat injury.

During her boss fight, Heket transforms into a monstrous toad with a cross-like slit for a mouth, which might make her probably themost disgusting-lookingboss inCult of the Lamb.

Heket has three main moves, each preceded by a powerful AOE hop:burping out swarms of flies, shooting bombs at you, and a tongue attack. Her three main attacks are easily avoidable, especially her tongue, as it isslow and telegraphed with a visual cue, leaving her vulnerable to your attacks.

But her main move set isn’t the most bothersome. Her hops are the most dangerous,as the AOE radius is quite wide and you can get easily damaged if you get too close.

2The One Who Waits

Ironically Impatient

The Gateway

Final Boss

After you defeat both of His followers,The One Who Waits (let’s call him by his real name, Narinder) breaks free from his chains and engages you head-on in his base form: a three-eyed black cat with black ichor running down his face.

As the final boss of the main story,Narinder has two phases. Like many multiphased boss fights, fighting him isa test of endurance and patience. In his first phase, Narinder would try to engage you at a distance, as he has no melee attacks, onlyunleashing chains and fireballs at you.

You’d be wise not to underestimate Narinder’s attacks, even in the first phase. While most of his attacks are well-telegraphed, the hardest to dodge is an attack in which he sendssix large fireball rings at you,and they come at you fast. These six attacks can easily box you into a corner, and dodging through those circles requires precise timing.

In his second phase, Narinder will grow in size and become an Eldritch being of epic proportions, becoming invincible and impossible to hit. While you can’t attack his main body, his three eyeballs split from their sockets and engage you in the arena.

Narinder’ssecond phase is surprisingly easier than his first, as the eyeballsmove and attack very slowlycompared to the other bosses. Most notably, Narinder can slam the ground and summontwo waves of fireballs that attack you in perpendicular linesthat cover the whole arena, which can be tough to dodge.

That’s One Tough Squid

As the third Bishop in the game and a notable coward,Kallamar is surprisingly strong.Sprouting many tentacles and another pair of arms, Kallamar wields a myriad of weapons to face you during his final stand.

Because of his cowardly nature, Kallamar will try tokeep you at bayby unleashing unrelenting waves of fireballs that cover the entire arena, making it almost impossible to get up close and personal.

He can also summonwave after wave of minions that populate the arena, though most of them can be ignored.

Kallamar is arguably thetoughest boss to beat because his projectile attacksturn this game into abullet hell akin toTouhougames.Even avoiding one wave of projectiles might leave you open to even more, and when you do get close enough, he can quickly swipe at you with his razor-sharp scimitar.
