Criminal Recordis an unnerving criminal tale that does a wonderful job of keeping the plot shrouded in mystery for the audience. Created by writer/directorPaul Rutman(Five Days, Indian Summers, and The Deep), the story follows two characters on a collision course to expose or hide the truth.

TheCriminal Recordepisode “Two Calls” starts when the last left off. June, showing an obsession comparable to Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, refuses to drop the case over Adelaide’s murder. This is even despite being threatened with an internal investigation that she assumes is linked to the case.

Except, now Maria was murdered. Now, two women are dead, probably by the same man. Not to mention, Errol Mathis is still in prison for murder. June now enters the apartment. After searching the homestead, Maria’s killer is nowhere to be found. After putting away her gun, the boyfriend returns for his phone! June chases him into the elevator, where he beats the detective and escapes.

Apple TV+’sCriminal RecordSeason 1 Episode 2 Recap: Who is Clive Silcox?

Clive Silcox was Maria De Souza’s boyfriend and the presumed killer of the woman with information on Errol Mathis’s tainted murder conviction. While in the hospital, June (Cush Jumbo)can identify her attacker when her boss, Roy, provides her with pictures of Maria’s boyfriend. Later, her family shows up to comfort her. June’s son, Jacob, thinks her mom’s bruises are cool and posts them on social media.

In an amazing coincidence, DCI Daniel Hegerty (Peter Capaldi) is put in charge of Maria’s murder. During the search for Clive, June returns to the office to investigate and receive the emergency call again, convinced Maria must be the original caller. However, she is then questioned by the “rat squad” about why eight times she did not attach a license plate search to a case file.

June ran the searches for her mother, Maureen, who has dementia and is often paranoid about police activity. June is now frightened. This common courtesy that most on the force perform cannot be held against her for investigating Adelaide’s and Maria’s murders. Still, June pushes on, interviewing Errol’s mother, Sonya. She eventually tells June that Errol and Clive grew up together.

Where does June find Clive Silcox?

June locates Clive at a relative’s house. At first, the woman tells June to leave, but she appears terrified. June calls for backup, assuming that Clive is hiding inside the home. However, June cannot wait because a fire has started inside the house.

June enters bravely, apprehending Clive before he can take his own life. June asks to interview Clive but is told she cannot do so. She is given approval after running the request up the chain of command. Under one condition, she is not allowed to ask Clive about the Adelaide murder case.

June, though, doesn’t play the game and asks him anyway. She can tell immediately that he’s the killer, even though he denies it. The police supervisor in charge ends the interview swiftly. June is then verbally reprimanded. June is toeing a fine line here. (She talked about this with her partner, Leo (Stephen Campbell Moore) that she is putting her personal and professional life in danger.)

Criminal Record’s Season 1 Episode 2 Ending Explained: Why is Maria De Souza not the caller?

Criminal Recordends with Daniel informing June that Maria De Souza is not the same woman who called the emergency line! Daniel ran a forensic audio analysis on both calls. A colleague later tells June that the DCI has expedited the report, hoping June will break protocol. This allowed him to bring down the hammer, making June look paranoid. However, it’s just as plausible that Daniel tampered with the report.

Later, a lawyer named Sonya Singh, who doubles as an activist, informs June that indeed, the emergency caller is still alive. The caller was not Maria and Daniel knew it all along.
