It looks like Bethesda thinks the gaming industry has room for more than one new version of Oblivion.

Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion as a mod for Skyrim, has been in development since 2016,and is set for release sometime this year.

However, Bethesda just surprise launchedthe long-rumored Oblivion Remastered, potentially putting the future of Skyblivion in jeopardy, but it sounds like those still looking forward to the mod have nothing to fear.

According to aposton the Skyblivion X account, Bethesda are strong supporters of the project, and even gifted free game keys for Oblivion Remastered to the mod’s development team.

In areplyto the previous post, Skyblivion explained Bethesda’s stance on their work.

Also, to clear up any confusion Bethesda made it clear that they have no intention of shutting down our project.

In a follow-up on Discord (viaVG247) they will continue working toward their 2025 release window for Skyblivion, finishing by saying, “There is room for both the official remaster and our fan-led remake and we – the fans – are the ultimate winners.”

This stance echoes how theyaddressed rumorsabout the official remaster earlier this month, saying that the two versions should be allowed to coexist without any need to compare them.

It makes sense that Bethesda would be so supportive of their modding community, consideringtheir various series’ rich history of modding, even thoughOblivion Remastered’s mod support currently seems somewhat spotty.

Not every studio is so supportive of their modding community, though, and such large-scale alterationscan draw the ire of publishers and rights holders.

Oblivion Remaster Exploit Lets You Max Out Stat With Ease

Anyone having trouble in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion can make things easier by using an exploit to max out the stat associated with lockpicking.

Still, though, Bethesda has clearly directly given the Skyblivion team their blessing, and they would have had plenty of opportunities to shut the project down during the development cycle of Oblivion Remastered if they had an issue with it, or if they thought it would be competition.

When it releases, Skyblivion will be free to anyone who owns Skyrim Special Edition and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe on Steam, and serves as a nice alternative to Oblivion Remastered as a way to experience an enhanced version of the game for those willing to wait.

If you’re interested in the project, more details can be found on itsofficial site.
