Matthew Vaughn Was Pushed to Edit the Scene From the Film
Appearing onBroBible’s Post Credit Podcast,Matthew Vaughn who recently released his 2024 spy parodyArgyllefeaturingHenry Cavill, recalled his 2014Kingsmanmovie. Discussing how passionately he shot the scene which ended up being one of the most memorable sequences from the film, Vaughn revealed how he almost edited it out due to the studio’s pressure.
Argylle Ending and Post-Credits EXPLAINED: Who is the REAL Agent Argylle?
“That was the first thing we shot on Kingsman. You start with a tricky, big scene, it clears the pipes and we’re in it, and you’ve got to concentrate. We’re also not exhausted, so we’ve got a chance at maybe making it work. But the thing about the church sequence, the studio was begging me to cut it three days before the film came out.”
Revealing how he was pushed by the studio a few days before the film’s release to edit the scene, Matthew Vaughn then narrated what he did. Rebelling against the studio, Vaughn stood his ground and left the scene as it is in the movie. Thankfully, the director was right about the scene, it eventually ended up being one of the most iconic scenes in the entire franchise.

“They were all very worried about it. And when a lot of people [would] say, ‘Ah, you shouldn’t have this sequence in the movie.’ Creative opinion is… everyone’s right and everybody’s wrong. What some people love, other people hate. But it is what it is: that’s art. And a lot of people were telling me, ‘You can’t have the church sequence,’ so there was a moment where I was like, ‘Well, maybe I shouldn’t put it in the movie. But, in the end, I went, ‘Nah, I really like it, I’m keeping it in.’”

Without a doubt the best scene in the entire film. Would’ve been a MONUMENTAL mistake.

This is literally why studios need to stop overstepping when it comes to making films. This is one of the best scenes and to have cut that would’ve been crazy.
