Today marks the launch of yet another Nintendo Switch port:City of Brass. While these kinds of ports are fairly common nowadays,City of Brassdoes stand out as it is an interesting mix of first person dungeon crawler, roguelike, andArabian Knights.
It was developed by Uppercut Games, a studio made up of formerBioShockandXCOMdevelopers. The studio was founded in Australia all the wayback in 2011by Ed Orman, Andrew James and Ryan Lancaster. The three of them had previously worked across the now defunct 2K Australia and 2K Marin onBioShock, BioShock 2,andThe Bureau: XCOM Declassified. They put themselves on the map with theEPOCHseries of game on mobile before developingCity of Brasswholly for consoles and releasing it for PC, PS4, and Xbox Oneon June 19, 2025.
In regards to previously working on theBioShockseries, Ed Orman says Uppercut Games “brought that knowledge to bear inCity of Brass,“though the game also incorporates the Arabian setting and hack-and-slash gameplay that the developers interested in working with as well.
The game takes place in the titular city whose citizens have been cursed and become an “army of the damned.” The player, a thief trying to plunder the city for the immense riches that drove its citizens mad, must fight off these enemies and survive with the ever-looming threat of permadeath.
“We’re happy to bringCity of Brassto the Switch and introduce the Nintendo community to our world while providing existing fans a new way to play and take the experience on the go,” said Ed Orman in press release celebratingCity of Brass’Nintendo Switch launch. This version of the game actually includes all previously released playable characters from the start and brings some new relics, weapons, enemy types, and quality of life improvements into the fold in order to make this the best version to play with the added portability.
