We learned yesterday thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 4became the best-selling digital entry in the franchise’s historyand now, unsurprisingly, we’ve also learned that it was last week’s top-selling game in the UK.
Black Ops 4unseatedFIFA 19to claim the top spot in UK sales for the 41st week of the year. This has become old hat for theCall of Dutyfranchise annually at this point and there’s a good chance that it could remain atop the charts for a couple more weeks.
What’s perhaps most interesting though is that, according to GamesIndustry.biz,Black Ops 4has the lowest physical sales in the UK in 11 years, which makes it the worst boxed-copy launch sinceCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. By comparison to last year’sCall of Duty: WWII, physical sales are down nearly 50%.
There are many reasons as to why this could be the case but one of which just seems to the aforementioned rise in digital sales. Activision confirmed in their statement this weekend thatBlack Ops 4had more users this weekend online compared toWWIIlast year, so there’s a chance thatCall of Dutyisn’t falling off whatsoever and more consumers are just embracing digital purchases. It’ll be interesting to see what the numbers from other regions end up telling us aboutBlack Ops 4once they come out.
As always, the full top-40 list for last week in the UK is below.
