Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaterhas nurtured a generation of players to skate safely in the comfort of their couches through a video game. Hawk took to Instagram and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original game released on the PlayStation 2, Nintendo N64, Dreamcast, and many more consoles with limited hardware capability. Fast forward to two decades and a half later, Hawk is teasing that something is coming sooner rather than later.

The legacy that Hawk built through his passion is uncanny and it seems like the retired skateboarder turned entrepreneur has more left in the tank. Another project could be in active development and Hawk is biding his time to rile up the skating community to get them excited for the franchise’s future.

The skating community traded in their skateboards for a controller temporarily afterthe remake hit the store shelves. Skaters and players banded together over a shared passion that Tony Hawk single-handedly carried during his early days which kickstarted his career as a professional skateboarder. Hawk worked tirelessly to provide the motion capture for skateboarding and he has significantly contributed to the franchise’s growth since then.
Hawk celebrated the 25th anniversary of the beloved gem andshared a brief reel on Instagramshowcasing his time providing data for the motion capture. While some skeptics doubted the franchise’s chances of success and survival amidst the fierce competition back in the day with much more viable options for gameplay and the potential reluctance of the gaming community to play a game about skateboarding rather than doing it in real life, the franchise grew and started a niche community and elevated the sport of skating for the past few years.

Skateboarding may not seem like a great idea for a video game, especially when the basic concepts involve doing the same principle over and over again. Fortunately, the game developers worked something out with Hawk and encouraged players to do cool tricks that sharpened their skills with timing and execution. TheTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfranchise made a significant cultural impact and pushed the skating community to new heights.

Sports games don’t fare all that well, especially nowadays when most of these projects are more of the same with a fresh coat of paint. However, the nostalgia the franchise has given the gaming community is incomparable to the joy of playing it 25 years ago on the PS2. Hopefully, whatever Hawk is teasing by the end of his lengthy Instagram post will arrive sooner than expected.

There is no telling what Hawk was trying to imply in his celebration post. The gaming community had low expectations for the first fewTony Hawk’s Pro Skatergames and their doubts allowed the game to surpass these expectations and encourage the youth to give this sport a chance. It is rare to see a man with great talent like Hawk invests his time to work on a video game franchise at a time when the two entertainment formats are different.
When Hawk first embarked on this project, he was a firm that believed in the franchise’s potential for growth. His unwavering determination was a major factor in introducing this sport to people worldwide. The enthusiastic support from the gaming community for the remakes undoubtedly provided both the developers and Hawk with the inspiration to pursue additional projects.

The future is looking bright for the franchise and there is no telling what Hawk was teasing but one thing is certain: it will ride on the success of the original games and elevate the sport even higher.
