In the alternative history of the world ofBridgerton, there is a slew of things that unfolded differently than the real-world history of the time. The show on Netflix has decided to deviate the story even further, making a key change to the character of Benedict Bridgerton from the novels.

Luke Thomas as Benedict Bridgerton || Netlfix

Luke Thomas’ Benedict Bridgerton has an interesting arc in the books, but the character’s story in the Netflix adaptation has become more complex thanks to one change made by the showrunner and writers of the show. The fact that Benedict is bisexual in the show, might be hinting towards a different endgame for the character’s love life.

Benedict Bridgerton ends up with a woman in the books

In the books, Benedict is a character that has no interest in men or is at least depicted as straight. However, in the show, the character is shown to be interested in men all the way back in Season 1, with the character of Henry Granville.

However, in the books, the character ends up with one Sophie Beckett, with whom he starts a family. The character’s story was a retelling of Cinderella, given that she functioned as a servant in the household of her father under her emotionally and verbally abusive stepmother, and stepsisters.

Despite this being the case in the novels, it is completely possible that the show takes a completely different root, given that it chose to depict Benedict as a bisexual character. This could mean that he ends up with another character entirely, which would leave Sophie Beckett open for a romance with another character.

The show is already having a great time exploring polyamory with Benedict Bridgerton

InSeason 3ofBridgerton, Hannah New’s Lady Tilley Arnold invited Benedict for ‘dinner’ with her friend Paul, right after they have had some time to themselves. Paul and Tilley are clearly lovers, and Paul shows some keen interest in Benedict as well, which he completely glosses over, thanks to him being laser-focused on figuring out whether Paul and Tilley were lovers.

However, the couple directly propositions him when confronted by him, and an offer that catches him off-guard, given that he is still not aware that Paul is actually bisexual as well. With a show that is defined by its dalliance with steamy romances, it seems it was only about time that the show started exploring other non-conventional romantic situations, turning them into a major draw for the story.
