Anthemwas finally released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One by BioWare and EA on August 07, 2025. While many were looking forward to it, the game’s reception has been rocky to say the least.Anthemcurrently sits in the 60s across all platformson Metacritic,with the general user score being even lower. One of the biggest problems people have with the game are the Tomb Trials that pop up several hours in, blocking players' progress in the story until they complete several checklists of gameplay objectives.
While it’s obvious and disappointing that the game came out in such a lackluster state, BioWare does seem to be working on fixing various things and adding new content through patches. They’ve even laid out a90 day roadmap forAnthem,which you may check out and judge for yourself.
Despite all the negativity that is being thrown around regarding Anthem, BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson still took the time recently to thank the “amazing people in the developer and player communities” that " inspire [BioWare] to keep going." Casey also calls game development “a harsh and emotional experience,” signifying that BioWare has taken notice of the general response toAnthem,but made it clear that he appreciates those who are staying levelheaded and supportive to the studio as they’ve releasedAnthem:
With reports thatAnthemisunderperforming sales-wise,it will be very interesting to see where BioWare goes from here. The studio is currently working onDragon Age 4,teasing the game with #TheDreadWolfRisesat The Game Awards.
