Ultimate abilities are generally the foundation of some incredible play-making material, especially inMOBAgames.
However, there are a handful of basic abilities that have the potential to be serious show-stoppers in their own right, some of which are obvious, while others fly more under the radar.

SMITE 2: 8 Best Gods For New Players
Looking to try out SMITE 2? Then give some of these gods a go.
With hundreds to choose from, this article aims to single out the most influential and cool basic abilities across thelist of gods inSMITE 2.

While aesthetics will play a factor in these rankings, the primary mode of judgment will be based on mechanical effectiveness.
Ultimate abilities are not considered in this article—only basic abilities.
9Whirlpool (Poseidon)
Ability Number
Ability Type
Circular aoe
Initial Cooldown
15 seconds
There are a few abilities in the game with a crippling effect (can’t use movement-based abilities), and one belongs to Poseidon. His Whirlpool is a prettydecent area-of-effect ability that damages, pulls in (known as vortexing), and cripples.

This is an excellent ability that Poseidon players typically use to set up theirRelease the Kraken ultimate, but it also offers somenice utility for teamfights and skirmishes.
While Whirlpool isn’t as effective as a stun, it has a larger area-of-effect than most stuns that mage-type gods have, making it a more reliable ability to hit.

Plus, even if the enemy gods caught in the Whirlpool aren’t stunned, they still can’t escape quickly without being able to use their movement-based abilities, turning it into practically just as good of a setup as any.
8Consign Spirits (Baron Samedi)
Damage And Healing, All In One
14 seconds
Baron Samedi’s Consign Spirits is abig area-of-effect damaging ability that healsallnearby allies.

Due to the size of the area-of-effect zone, it has higher accuracy than other abilities with smaller areas-of-effect, and the healing granted is nothing small.
There is a neat bonus to this ability that givesslow immunity and a speed buff to allies hit by the heal, but there is a condition to this: at least one of the enemy gods hit must have above 30 Hysteria (Baron’s passive) on them.
Similar to Hades’ Blight (which will come up later), the way to get Hysteria stacks on enemies is simply by hitting them, but even so, the mass-heal is what gets Consign Spirits on this list.
7Agile Run (Aladdin)
Terrain? What Terrain?
Self-buff movement
16 seconds
To be fully transparent,Aladdin’sAgile Run isthe only terrain-walking movement-based ability in the game, and it is hilarious to watch and valuable in use.
His speed is faster than normal for the duration of the wall-walking, and he does some area-of-effect damage when he lands.
He can be hit while moving, but the fact thathe fully counters any terrain-creating abilitiesthat other gods have (like Anhur, Thor, and Ymir) makes this ability utterly unique and a powerful tool of both engagement and disengagement.
6Unravel (Neith)
Stop Thinking About Tokyo Ghoul
12 seconds
Unravel is one of thebest sustain-based abilitiesacross the game that doesn’t belong to a true support god, like Aphrodite. On top of that, it also acts as another way for Neith to set up more Broken Weaves from her passive.
First off, Unravel is asolid-sized area-of-effect ability that heals Neithfor quite a bit more for each enemy god hit. This makes Neith excellent at sustaining herself on the battlefield and reduces the number of times she needs to head back to base to recover.
Second,Unravel is guaranteed to drop a Broken Weave at its center, but it also drops more Broken Weaves for each enemy god hit with the ability.
It can be used as an exquisite set-up for later, or as a way to pull a quick trigger on a chain explosion of Broken Weaves to dish out some serious damage.
5Soul Reap (Thanatos)
A Bit On The Nose With This One
Thanatos’ Soul Reap makes this list for a couple of key reasons.
First and foremost, it’s anarea-of-effect silence, which only a handful of gods have. Plus, Soul Reap is quite alarge conal area-of-effectas it is, which means you get to hit more gods more easily.
SMITE 2: 9 Best God Ultimates
The greatest powers of the gods at your fingertips… behold, the best ultimate abilities of SMITE 2.
Secondly, while Thanatos can be played and built as a bruiser, he can also be played and built as an assassin.
Giving an assassin a large area-of-effect silence (that’s not even an ultimate) that also deals some pretty good damage isincredible for both single-target assassination and teamfights.
4Disapparate (Sol)
Can’t Touch This
Self-buff defensive
While movement-based abilities are generally pretty straightforward, Sol’s Disapparate is nothing as passe as a blink or dash.
Instead, it is a self-buff that givesmovement speed, slow immunity, andafter 3 seconds, full damage immunity, all the while being able to move freely.
Also, this abilityleaves a trail of flames behind her that detonatesfor decent damage, which is just some fiery icing on the cake. The main reason it beats out Aladdin’s Agile Run is because Aladdin isn’t completely immune to damage while he’s wall-running.
This is easily one of the best defensive abilities in the game andallows Sol to play quite aggressivelywhen it’s up. It can even be used to bait out and fully counter hard-hitting abilities from enemies through the immunity it grants.
3Shroud of Darkness (Hades)
More Like Shroud Of Fear
Anotherconal area-of-effect silencethat makes this list isHades’Shroud of Darkness. Although it has a smaller area-of-effect than Thanatos’ Soul Reap, it has one extra aspect that makes it incredibly valuable:a fear effect.
It’s important to note that the fear isn’t guaranteed; the enemy hit must be Blighted for the fear to take effect.
That said, blighting your enemies as Hades is as simple as hitting them with an auto-attack or an ability, making it relatively easy to accomplish.
2Tectonic Rift (Thor)
Watch The Feet!
Linear terrain creation
17 seconds
Terrain-creating abilities are nothing new inSMITE 2, and neither is Thor’s Tectonic Rift, but it’s a classic ability that offers an assassin a way to set up kills for either himself or his team.
This is alinear area-of-effect damaging ability that stuns all enemies hit and creates terrain impassable with basic movement(unless you’re Aladdin).
Not only is this an excellent ability to help yousecure your own God kills, butit can block possible routes of escape in the junglefor your enemies, or at the very least, force any movement-based abilities out of your enemies to get around the wall.
1Confound (Athena)
Hey! Over Here!
18 seconds
Athena, being the tank (or bruiser) that she is, should have anarea-of-effect lockdown abilityto help set her team up. And while it’s not exactly a true stun, it’s something better: a taunt.
Generally, I think taunts are better than straight stuns because they allow you to direct the movement of the enemy god(s) hit for a short time, allowing for more versatility and set-up options.
Also, there are far fewer taunts in the game than stuns, which is evidence of its value in itself.
Athena’s Confound is asmall conal area-of-effect tauntthat you can use to set up kills for your team, lure enemies into tower range, or set yourself up for kills if you’re building her more on the bruiser or assassin track.
