Fairly early on in the game, you will activate a Haunting Case titled The Flesh is Weak as you are getting through the Hungry The Hunted questline. What starts as a run-of-the-mill investigation quickly devolves into one of the most wretched side quests in gaming.

The Flesh Is Weak Haunting Case Is an Appropriate Welcome to the World of Banishers
Just a few hours into the game, players will come across a certain Jacob Lynde, who can be found in a makeshift shelter in The Dark Woods. When speaking with him, you find out he’s waiting on his friend Benedict Stoughton, who’s out hunting for game. Looking around his abode, you’ll notice he hasn’t been taking very good care of himself. The house is filled with maggots, an omen of what transpires later in the case.

Red and Antea must then track down Ben, but that’s easier said than done. They have to explore the mountains and investigate the quickmyst to find out what’s happened to the hunter. The case will also require you to switch to Antea, as she is unaffected by some of the fog you would need to traverse to progress the quest. Once you come to a point where you need to perform a Harkening Ritual, you are finally ready to learn the truth.

When you find Ben’s corpse after performing the ritual, you’ll notice there is a decent chunk of flesh missing from the cadaver. No, it’s not animals. That’s right, not only is Jacob responsible for the death of his friend, but he’s also resorted to cannibalism. With this information, it’s time to return to Jacob and put an end to this case.

Back at the shack, you must perform a Make-Manifest Ritual to summon the ghost of Ben and confront Jacob. In the conversation, you’ll learn Jacob pushed Ben off a cliff in a delirious state due to being plagued by consistent nightmares.
Ben even tells you that Jacob is, for all intents and purposes, a “kind and godly man, pure and true always” and that “We both faced a choice, simple and awful: to kill, or to die.“
It now falls on the players to decide whether to blame Jacob, banish Ben, or help Ben ascend. If you plan on resurrecting Antea, then you have to blame Jacob. If that doesn’t sit right with you, you’ll be making many more such decisions as you progress in yourBanishersjourney.
