How To Convince Lae’zel To Avoid Taking The Cure

Talk toGhustil Stornugoss, the resident healer, and you’ll be faced with the decision toeither enter the Zaith’isk yourself or let Lae’zel enter it. There are quite a few different ways this encounter can go, so it pays to be mindful. Here is the breakdown of the choices.

When you interact with the Zaith’isk, Lae’zel will insist she enters the machine first to be cured. You have two options:

saving throw to exit the zaith’isk as the player character in bg3-1

The end result is that either you or Lae’zel will enter the Zaith’isk.

What Happens If Lae’zel Doesn’t Enter The Zaith’isk

If your character is the one to enter, they’ll be faced with three saving throws of increasing difficulty

The last saving throw depends on which class you are in. Different classes get different options. Failing in any one of these checks will give your character a semi-permanent’Weakened’ debuff of -2 to either INT, WIS, or CON, depending on which one of the checks you failed. The Weakened status can be cured with Partial Ceremorphosis(available in Act 2). Regardless of whether you fail or succeed in the checks, your Dream Visitor will step in after the third saving throw with a cry of “Enough” and destroy the machine, ending the procedure.

Succeeding in all three checks will give you thepermanent buff, Awakened, which allows you to performIllithid spellsas a bonus action, an incredible buff for Illithid-focused characters. And each successful check alsoincreases Lae’zel’s approval.

Fighting with Ghustil after destroying the Zaith’isk doesn’t result in the entire Creche becoming hostile. Only the Githyanki in the immediate vicinity will attack you. The rest won’t care.

What Happens If Lae’zel Enters The Zaith’isk

If you allow Lae’zel to enter the Zaith’isk, she will undergo the same procedure you would’ve but with a different spin. Instead of saving throws of 12, 15, and 18, you’ll have the option to convince Lae’zel to exit the Zaith’isk either by convincing or deceiving her. The only problem is thatit is much, much harder to convince Lae’zel to step out of the machine than it is to save yourself from it. You’ll get the following dialogue choices.

Failing to convince Lae’zel to exit the Zaith’isk will give her the -2 Weakened debuff on one of her stats. Again, regardless of whether you succeed or fail in the checks, Lae’zel’s Dream Visitor will destroy the machine after the third step, ending the procedure.

Succeeding in the Arcana check at the last step will also grant your character the Awakened permanent buff.

Should You Let Lae’zel Enter The Zaith’isk?

No. There is no reason to let Lae’zel take the Githyanki Cure from Ghustil.Entering the machine using your own character results in much easier dice rolls that you have a much higher chance of succeeding in, whereasletting Lae’zel enter results in dice rolls that are nearly impossible to succeedin for no discernable benefit. If you phrase it correctly, Lae’zel will even approve of your decision to undergo the procedure instead of letting her do it first. Win-win.
