Baldur’s Gate 3players might be familiar with Naaber, the would-be adventurer who harasses the player in Carm’s Garm, a clothing store in Act 3’s Wyrm’s Crossing.

If you enter the store, Naaber will cling to you and try to engage you in conversation about adventuring. He isn’t sure what class he wants to pick yet and would appreciate a spirited discussion about the topic. Humorously, if you listen to him speaking about every single class then he will reward you with a magical amulet and thank you for the conversation.

Baldur’s Gate Noober

As Baldur’s Gate 3’s audience has exceeded that of its legendary predecessors, people might not be familiar with the lore of Naaber. He’s part of a running joke that’s existed since Baldur’s Gate 1, starting with a character called Noober.

The Noober Family

Noober was a similarly talkative man who could be found in the town of Nakshel in the original Baldur’s Gate. He was an NPC that pestered the player exactly 32 times, granting experience if you managed to tolerate him long enough. Similar to Naaber, he speaks about how everyone finds him annoying.

Then, in Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, there exists a man by the name of Neeber. He resides in Trademeet and is enthusiastic to meet a group of adventurers, hoping to become one in the future. If you listen to Neeber, he will grant the party experience and several Bullet +2s, possibly implying that people have been throwing rocks at him to get him to stop talking.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Flaming Fist Kneeling

Finally, we have Nüber, a character from Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. Nüber is a similar breed, asking pointless questions and sharing irrelevant anecdotes about his life. He wants to find a new pair of boots, also.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Finds Hilarious Yet Tragic Camp Glitch

That’s true loyalty.

It’s unknown if all of these characters are related but we do for a fact that Naaber is descended from the original Noober. He declares this if he dies and is then revived using Speak With Dead.

“I’m Naaber, son of Niiber, son of Nuuber, descendant of Noober…,” he reveals. If asked if he’s always been this talkative, he says his father taught him to be persistent because people don’t always listen at first. There’s also a heartbreaking line where Naaber reveals that all he wanted from life was friends.
