Baldur’s Gate 3’s companions are a charming part of the story-focused strategy game. Halsin was so beloved by early access players that he was made a companion despite not initially being intended for the role. When these companions follow the player character throughout Faerûn, you can learn about their backstories and level them up.

Halsin’s Starting Stats
In Act One, you canfind Halsin, and he might briefly accompany your party in battle. During this time, he is a Level 5 Moon Druid with a high Strength and Wisdom, as well as access to the entire Druid Spell List. However, his stats change when he becomes a member of your party.
When you can finallyrecruit Halsin into your partyin Act Two, he starts as a level one Druid with completely different Ability Scores and spells prepared. Like all companions, Halsin comes with predetermined Ability Scores, Proficiencies, and Cantrips (Thornwhip and Shillelagh).

Ability Scores
Starting Proficiencies & Features
Halsin is a Wood Elf, meaning he starts the game withFey Ancestry, Elven Weapon Training, and Dark Vision. Like all Druids, he also gets proficiency in a number ofSimple Weapons, Light and Medium Armor, Shields, Intelligence Saving Throws, and Wisdom Saving Throws.
Best Subclass For Halsin
While thebest Druid Subclassis up for debate, and Multiclassing Druid sure is fun, being a Bear is so key to Halsin’s characterthat it seems wrong to take that from him. As a result, we’ll be building him asa straight Moon Druid. However, this still leaves plenty of customization open — Druids have a versatile Spell List, pick three Feats, and can make use of a multitude of items.

Best Spells For Halsin
Druids are prepared spellcasters. This means that they can change which spells they have available (except Cantrips) at any time outside of combat. This versatility can be really overwhelming to players, but it provides peak versatility to the class. However, there are a number of reallyfantastic Druid Spellsthat will help in almost any situation — cutting down on the choices you need to make before each encounter.

Best Feats For Halsin
Halsin benefits greatly from increasing his Wisdom, but Athlete and Mage Slayer are also good choices.Athleteincreases his jumping distance, which your terrestrial Wildshape forms will often use in combat to close into melee.Mage Slayer,on the other hand, makes him an excellent strike force against pesky casters.
Best Gear & Equipment For Halsin
Druids have little to no gear restrictions in Baldur’s Gate 3, a massive break from D&D’s earlier editions. However, there are some allusions in the game to the long-standing lore thatDruids dislike metal. For instance, Dammon complains in the Emerald Grove about the Druids having only wooden tools.
Because this game is a role-playing experience as well as a strategy game, all of this gear is non-metal while also being very useful to Halsin’s gameplay.

How To Play Halsin In Combat
When running Halsin as a party member, he will have a veryrepetitive move set. This can be helpful if you are running more choice-intensive characters in your other party slots, or if you want a calm gaming experience.
If you ever get knocked out of Wildshape, simply start the process over at step one by casting another spell and going back into Wildshape.
