Baldur’s Gate 3has become an industry darling for its unforgettable characters, as well as the romantic storylines those characters can bring.
Whether playing as an Origin character or a freshly created Tav, the NPCs breathe life (and love) into the game.

That said, most NPCs can’t be romanced (or even have a one-time fling), despite the hopes and dreams of new and veteran players.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Romances for The Dark Urge, Ranked
From Astarion to Shadowheart, these are the best romance choices for Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Unlike wanting to romance multiplayer characters for the purest Dungeons and Dragons experience, the motive behind wanting to romance these NPCs is quite simple: because they’re immensely lovable.

Unfortunately, these lovable NPCs can only love us back in a platonic sense, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream.
This article will contain spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3 and its respective characters.

Best Suited to: Good Playthrough
When the party first meetsZevlor, he’s only a shadow of the Hellrider paladin he once was.
Instead, he’s found leading the refugee tieflings from Elturel to Baldur’s Gate, protecting them when he can and looking after them — until he gets abducted by Absolute cultists. Should the player rescue him,he’ll be an ally, a Hellrider again, in the final battle against theNetherbrain.

Zevlor is an excellent character, with his growth being equal parts satisfying and inspiring. Watching him go from feeling powerless to reclaiming his mind as his own was really neat, and it would be a lovely story to explore more in a romance.
Just think of how enriching an experience it would be after going through the shared trauma of theMind Flayer Colony.

9Lord Enver Gortash
Best Suited to: Evil Playthrough
Lord Enver Gortashis a powerful enemy or an ally, depending on whether the player chooses toform an alliance with him.
He’s charismatic and charming, but he’s not a good fit for a romance for just anyone — specifically, his romance would be best suited forThe Dark Urge.
Not only is his romance one that isvery highly requested, but his in-game dialogue to The Dark Urge vs his in-game dialogue to Tav is like night and day. With Tav, he’s cordial yet firm, but with The Dark Urge, there’s history and hints of flirtation.
That history between the two of them is referenced throughout the game, with fans believing there could be something deeper. Plus, it would make sense in evil playthroughs, since the player’s goals would directly align with his: controlling the Netherbrain and ruling the world.
If nothing else, he certainlyknows how to dress.
8Barcus Wroot
Every time the party runs intoBarcus, he’s having a terrible day. The poor gnome can’t catch a break, and will need to be saved a couple of times before he can be invited to camp.
Unfortunately, that’s about where it stays. He can’t even become a companion (even though fans would love that), much less a romance.
Baldur’s Gate 3: All Romance Options, Ranked
Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to romance certain NPCs. Here are the best ones to Romance.
He would be a very sweet romance, especially if players side with him and encourage him to become the new leader of theIronhand Gnomes.
He’s consistently loyal to his friends (such as his dedication toWulbren, who is a jerk to him) and is dedicated to preserving their wellbeing.
He brings a lot of heart and humor to the story, which would be lovely to see in a romance.
Just be sure not to pull theRelease Break Leverwhen saving him the first time.
7Disciple Z’rell
Disciple Z’rellis a surprisingly underrated character in the game — a loyal follower ofThe Absolute, she’s an intimidating presence of authority.
Yet, depending on the player’s game, she’ll have these lines of dialogue that really makes fans question what could have been.
Most notably, when the party sides withThe Harpersand begins the assault onMoonrise Towers, she’d lament that the player would be “just another notch in [her] bedpost.”
These words keep players guessing — and wanting the option to be another notch.
A romance would only be possible in evil playthroughs, and it would be interesting to have a romance with The Absolute being more central to the story than another question that needs answering.
Anyone fortunate enough to chat withLakrissais greeted with wit and charm. She’s often found alongsideAlfira, and it’s implied that there’s something more — or at least, a hardcore crush.
Yet, her dialogue (and the player’s dialogue options for her) are outright flirty. The way she delivers her dialogue just adds to it; if nothing else, her charismatic nature is enough to keep players guessing.
If she wassaved with the other captive tieflingsin Moonrise Towers during Act 2, her flirting towards the player becomes a lot bolder — either due to her feeling more comfortable, or if (at least in dreams) the flirts are now real.
While players can romanceRaphael’s visage through the incubusHaarlep, the devil himself cannot be romanced, which doesn’t change if theymake a dealwith him, either.
Of course, the devil is charming, but he’s also sassy. His personality is cordial, but it has a sinister undertone that dances with the player like a dark waltz.
Raphael would be one of the few characters who doesn’t really care what choices the player is making, so long as they align with his own goals and personal gain. It wouldn’t be a healthy romance, but it would be fitting for evil-aligned Tavs or embraced Dark Urges.
Because, after all, some people just want to watch the world (and the hells) burn.
Due to her fatein The Dark Urge playthroughs,Alfiracan’t be romanced (unless she’smiraculously saved). However, the experience is entirely different with Tav and if she lives through each act.
She’s already a fan favourite, with many wanting her tojoin as a companion, filling the role as the dearly missed bard.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Spiciest Speedrun Has A New World Record
The runner says his record is “unbeatable.”
Alfira’s sweet demeanor and her cheery attitude towards the player would add to a very endearing romance.
Players found cut content even more compelling:an unused approval meter, implying that at one point, she would have been a companion or even a potential romance option.
Just imagine the amount of music she would bring to camp and everyone’s lives.
Dammonwould be a heartfelt romance for good-aligned players, especially as the game progresses and the tiefling refugees make their way toBaldur’s Gate.
Players first run into the infernal mechanic at theEmerald Grove, and he’s a crucial character when trying to pursueKarlach’s romance.
He can craft aFlawed Helldusk Armour setusing the sameInfernal Ironthat Karlach’s engine uses after her heart is repaired.
Considering his path directly crosses with one of the game’s main characters, it would make for an extremely touching romance.
It would also be even more touching to potentially romance him whenplaying as Karlach— but if nothing else, it’s clear that he deeply cares.
A classic option all around and avery desired romance among fans,Jaheirais a romance fans can only dream of having. She has an approval meter, but Baldur’s Gate 3’s director,Swen Vincke, has clarified thatromancing her won’t ever be an option.
It makes sensenot to be able to romance her (most likely becauseKhalid, her late husband, is still a sore spotsince she bluntly refuses to elaborate on him in the game). That said, players still want to give her kisses.
A romance with Jaheira would be incredible, either as The Dark Urge (given her history withBhaalspawn) or as a normal Tav, but one thing is for sure: the playthrough needs to be good. The mom of the party doesn’t have time or patience for evil.
When players first meetRolanat theEmerald Grove, they have the option to side with him in telling his siblings to flee, or toconvince him to stayand help the other tieflings.
For the best character arc (and to best see romance potential), it would be better to convince him to stay.
Rolan is the cocky apprentice to the wizardLorroakan, who is nothing short of cruel. However, should the player help him and his siblings (CalandLia) throughout the game, he would aid the player in the fight againstLorroakanand against theNetherbrain, inspired by their actions up until this point.
He’s a character that starts completely rude and snippy to the player, almost like he despises them. However, that facade slowly melts over time, and by the end of the game, his compassion and loyalty is rock solid.
Then again, that means Gale would have competition, and wizards aren’t the most keen on that.

It’s the conversation that refuses to end.
