There’s an intimidating number of mysteries inOne Piece. Not much has changed on that front, even though we are in the final saga. As the end draws closer, the bigger mysteries take precedence over the small doubts fans have regarding their favorite characters. This makes the SBS column ofOne Piecemanga a great way for fans to interact with Eiichiro Oda himself. Over the years, Oda has revealed many important facts and answered fan queries through the SBS.

A concerned Bonney can be seen in the picture

With the most recent volume, Oda cleared the air around a particular character’s powers. Ever since Bonney’s devil fruit powers were revealed, fans have been speculating the extent of her powers. Post Egghead, Bonney has become an important character in the story. Her close association with Luffy and her devotion to Nika make her powers even more intriguing.

Oda’s Confirmation on Bonney’s Immortality

During the Egghead arc, Bonney’s powers were on full display. She was manipulating the age of different characters, including her own. Her ability made fans question if she was possibly immortal; considering how she can keep herself young through her powers. Fans were wondering if this meant that she can avoid her potential death from old age.

“I’ve found nothing like it and that haunts me”: In the Era of One Piece, Berserk Fans Know the True Value of Kentaro Miura’s Eerie Masterpiece That Has No Equivalent

One fan took this question to SBS and askedEiichiro Odaif Bonney could avoid her death by maintaining a young age. Quoting Bonney fromchapter 1072, Oda clarified (via translations on reddit) that it wasn’t the case.

Bonney said this : “When it comes to living things, the effectivity won’t last forever…” so at some points, the effect will be undone.

A baby Vegapunk can be seen in the picture in One Piece

After turning Dr. Vegapunk into an infant, Bonney told him that her powers don’t last forever on living things. Seemingly, Bonney doesn’t have the ability to decide the duration of her power’s effects. At some point, the affected person is bound to return to their actual age.

Bonney’s Devil Fruit is Overpowered inOne Piece

While Oda’s confirmation somewhat clarifies that Bonney can’t be immortal, there are more aspects to be considered. Even if Bonney reuses her power once the initial effect has worn off, she can die through other means – like physical attacks or sea water. So even if Bonney could stay young forever, she is always susceptible to threats. More than her age manipulation, the power to transform into any future is more interesting.

If Bonney can imagine something, she can transform into it. This happened when she transformed into Nika, after seeing Gear 5 Luffy. As long as she has a wild imagination, there are numerous possibilities. She can transform into a powerful being with no limits whatsoever. In this respect, Luffy might be the best influence she could possibly have. Luffy’s thought process is ruled by freedom and his imagination is boundless.

Not Bonney or Luffy, Another One Piece Character Could Be the Perfect Heir to Kuma’s Legacy

After the recent developments and Kuma’s involvement with the Straw hats, Luffy could extend his support to Bonney, the way he has done with the characters from Wano and countless others. Luffy’s status as an emperor carries a lot of weight, but his personality is reassuring to those around him. With his support and his carefree attitude, Bonney could transform into someone strong enough to hit back at the World Government for the suffering they inflicted on her family.
