Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Otherwise known as AOC) took to Twitch last night to make her debut on the Amazon-owned streaming platform. On October 19, she had startedputting a call outfor other streamers to join her for anAmong Usstream while also encouraging people to get out and vote. The stream, which was primarily all about video games, took place last night and saw Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez racking up an impressive number of concurrent viewers.The stream saw New York state representativeAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez, joined by a range of personalities, includingIlhan Omarwho serves as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. The stream, according to esports consultant Rod Breslau, saw the highest peak around 439,000, making AOC the third-highest individual stream of all time.Ninja and Drake keep the top spotat 628,000 concurrent viewers. In second place is Shroud’s recent return, originally he went from Twitch andbegan exclusively streaming on Mixer, but since theMicrosoft streaming platform shut downthis year, he returned to Twitch. His return saw a little over 500,000.
AOC’s involvement with video games has seen herspeak out against Blizzard’s decision to suspended Blitzchunglast year. More recently shefiled an amendmentto stop the US Army from using Twitch and video games to recruit people into the military.
Last night’s stream saw AOC and everyone else primarily enjoying playingAmong UsÂand having a great time with laughter and great moments caught by the community. There were occasional moments in which viewers were encouraged to vote, or if unable to vote, to encourage someone else who can vote to do so. The 2020 US Presidental Election is not far off now, and so if you need to get yourself registered to vote, study up on the candidates, and then get out and vote.
It’s unknown if AOC will plan to continue doing Twitch streams in the future, but after watching highlights from the Video-on-Demand, I think it wouldn’t be at all a bad thing.
