Mads Mikkelsen’sHannibal, as a character, always leaves the viewers wanting more. Regardless of how much information they find out about him, they are always consumed with questions, as though they may never truly understood him. As though a personification of the dark, no matter how well one learns to navigate the darkness, it is impossible to fully see in it.

The show is somewhat similar, leaving its audience with a mountain of questions, be it about specific character motivations, or plot points as a whole. Due to this, Fannibals have been demanding that the series get another season after it was canceled after a three-season run.
While the demand for another season is very loud, there is also a different part of the fandom that does not want more of the story, and their reasoning is quite interesting.

Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham, Cliff-Hangers, and Love Crimes
The last episode ofHannibal,The Wrath of the Lamb,is certainly one of the most memorable moments in the entire series. Reminiscent of the feelings thatMizumonoleft its audience with, the final few minutes of the series feel more like a twisted rom-com than they do a psychological horror series.
In a bloody fit of fury,Mads Mikkelsen’scharacter andHugh Dancy’sWill Graham kill the Red Dragon, Francis Dollarhyde. Bloody, bruised, and panting, Will revels in the reality that he just killed someone and could not fully call it self-defense. Taking the audience back to the last words that Garret Jacob Hobbs said to him, he finally realizes the true beauty that can come with killing and tells Lecter exactly this.

“You couldn’t imagine an actor of color”: ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ Director Had to Cast a White Actor as Hannibal to Show the Real Hypocrisy of America
Will Graham:It really does look black in the moonlight.Dr. Lecter:See? This is all I ever wanted for you, Will. For both of us.Will Graham:It’s beautiful.
After experiencing a moment of true euphoria, both fall off a cliff, with their fates being ambiguous. In the final shot of the show, audiences see a shaking Bedelia Du Maurier, who cut and prepared her own leg for Lecter to consume. It is safe to say that after a finale like this, audiences had a lot of questions and wanted to know so much more about these characters.

With the literal cliffhanger that the series ended on, fans have been demanding more from the series, even though almost a decade has passed since the finale aired. The cast and crew of the series have also had multiple conversations on the same, hinting that the possibility of the series coming back is more likely than not. However, this may not be the best thing for the beloved series.
Mads Mikkelsen’sHannibaldoes not need another season
While a majority of Fannibals might argue that Hannibal should get another season, there are fans onRedditwho believe the series is perfectly fine without it. It can be assumed that the series would have continued on to adapt other books by Thomas Harris.
If the series had gone on, fans would have seen so much more from Lecter’s character, including eventually getting a taste ofThe Silence of the Lambs. However, the three seasons managed to do this in a very unique manner. The series was very famously not loyal to its source material in the traditional way, taking a lot of liberties when it came to chronology.

“He’s much more than a psychopath”: Mads Mikkelsen’s Idea of Hannibal is Quite Different from What Anthony Hopkins Did to Make Him Satan
Glimpses of all books were present in some way or another, includingThe Silence of the Lambs.Additionally, character arcs were perfectly wrapped up by the end of the series. Although fans would certainly want to know more about Bedelia, Will and Hannibal got to fully see their arcs through.
Will was a completely different person than who he was before he met Lecter. While there is room for Hannibal’s character to be explored, that happening without Will would seem empty. Considering the perfect arc that these characters went through and the beauty that came with the series’ ending, a big percentage of fans believe that the series should not be renewed.
Hannibalis available for streaming on Prime Video.
