Kohei Horikoshi’s art style is no joke, as he has single-handedly carried forward the popularity of My Hero Academia. However, its spinoff series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, has the potential to give the original series a run for its money. The initial release of its character visuals is enough to drive the point home.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes' artstyle can rival Kohei Horikoshi

Taking place 5 years prior to the original series,Vigilantesis a darker version ofMHA. Rather than portraying the stories of the best heroes,My Hero Academia: Vigilantesfocuses on minor groups of people who are trying to find their best in society. It takes the core themes ofMHAand looks at them from a different perspective.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes‘ character design can make Kohei Horikoshi fans jealous

AlthoughVigilantesis a spinoff ofMy Hero Academia, it is not authored byKohei Horikoshi. It is written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court. In fact, the character designers for both series are also different. While Yoshihiko Umakoshi did the character designs forMHA, Yuki Hayashi designed the characters forVigilantesanime.

Due to the five-year difference in the timeline and the different people doing the illustrations and artwork, the art styles of both series are bound to come out differently. The first volley of character designs forMy Hero Academia: Vigilantesanime is out, and it has made fans of the Shonen series drool.

Some of the Pro Heroes who appear in the original series also make their debuts inVigilantesand their activities before the main storyline have been revealed through the spinoff. Kohei Horikoshi has always been adamant about providing extensive backstories, which is whyVigilantesworks as the perfect series to focus on the past events that shape theMHAworld.

The major problems that are the root of all issues in the Hero Society ofMHAare actually introduced in more detail inVigilantes. The failings of the Hero Systemas well as the loopholes in law and society, are pointed out clearly.
