Matt Reeves Broke Down Robert Pattinson’s Dark Hallway Fight Scene
During an interview with the ReelBlend podcast,Matt Reevesexplained how he came about the idea for the dark hallway fight scene. Reeves explained that they wanted to let audiences know that Batman could see in the dark with his contact lenses. The only way he could do that was to show a horror figure walking towards them as they were taking shots at him.

Reeves’ idea worked even better when Batman came closer and closer as each muzzle flash went off. When the light flashed, he would be beating someone and then it went dark and the cycle continued. Reeves explained the shot toReelBlend:
I thought, ‘What if he kills the power so the only one who can see is Batman? And how do we know that?’ That we’ll be in this point of view, and the only way we’ll know that is that they’re taking shots at this guy coming like a horror figure.
And the only time you can see where he is, is that each time one of the muzzle flashes goes off, you’ll see him getting closer and closer, and beating somebody, and then it goes black, and in and out and in and out.
Reeves also shared that his initial plan was to use CG Batman but stunt coordinator Rob Alonzo convinced Reeves that they could film it practically. They broke the choreography into segments and later used VFX to enhance the final footage.
