Steam is a massive gaming platform where you can buy and install games, interact with other players, and much more. According to the latest data, there are a staggering 132 million monthly users on the platform. Not only is Steam a platform where you can play games, but developers also use it to distribute their games, whether it be the bigger companies or the less-known gaming companies.
They communicate with the community and they can release their updates more efficiently. Steam also offers an app where you may download games or organize your game library on the go. We will discuss seven of our favorite free first-person shooters that you and your friends should download and play right now, available on Steam.
To start us off, we havePaladins,developed by evil Mojo Games and produced by Hi-Rez Studios, This first-person hero shooter is fun, and the main objective of the game in this fantasy world called the realm is that each team of five players has to complete specific combat-based tasks depending on the game mode.
For example, in a popular game mode called Siege, where two teams of five players face off against each other to gain control of a point in the middle of the map, there is a payload that has to be escorted to the enemy base. At this time, if your enemy can eliminate you, they can take control of the payload and push back to your base. Ultimately, if you can get the payload to the opposition’s starting area, your team will win. With the dynamics of this game, it can be very fun with friends.
6Halo Infinite
In this first-person shooter, you play as the main character from theHaloseries called Master Chief, developed by 343 Industries and published by Xbox Game Studios. You will traverse through this open world on the Zeta Halo, facing the likes of the Banished with an array of weapons and vehicles. With the massive story of Halo, there comes an accomplished online multiplayer game mode with the likes of team deathmatch, capture the flag and many more modes where players will go head-to-head to see who is the ultimate Master Chief.
5World War 3
World War 3was developed by Wishlist Games and published by The 4 Winds Entertainment. World War 3 has been dubbed the free version ofBattlefield,as it plays and looks very similar toBattlefield.World War 3 has no single-player campaign it is purely a player-versus-player online game. The developers pride themselves on the realism of the game, the advanced ballistics system, vehicle physics, and extensive customization. There are different game modes, tactical OPs, which is 20v20, or team deathmatch, which is 10v10.
4Destiny 2
Destiny 2is a highly popular first-person shooter.Destiny 2was developed by Bungie, published by Activision (2017-2018) then changed publication in 2019 to become self-published.Destiny 2integrates MMO elements with role-playing. Throughout the game, you eliminate enemies to collect new gear to better your character, then venture forth into dungeons to increase your level and gear.
Eventually, you will be capable of completing raids, which does prove easier in groups. You can create clans to make it easier to communicate between you and friends, but in a later update, they added the in-game chat system to help players communicate and navigate more easily through raids and dungeons. While these are all elements of the PVE side ofDestiny 2, there are also many different varieties of PVP matches that can be overwhelmingly fun with friends.
3PUBG Battlegrounds
PUBG Battlegroundssaw the start of a new era of first-person shooters in regard to battle royale games.PUBGwas developed by PUBG Studios and published by Krafton. PUBG’s main goal is to be the last team remaining. On the way to the endpoint of the game, you are to search across the vast map to search for weapons, medicines, and armor, all to help you fight the rest of the players, all of whom are searching for that chicken dinner.
You have different options to play this game run in all guns blazing or play tactically, playing in the shadows, sneaking upon the other players on this vast map. You can play on your own or in a group of up to four players. This is a great game, whether you choose to play it on your own or with your friends.
2Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
As we reach the penultimate game on our list,Counterstrike-Strike: Global Offensive, developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment and published by Valve, this is a tactical 5 VS 5 team player game where one side plays as terrorists and the other side as counter-terrorists.
The counter-terrorists have to stop the terrorists from planting the bomb on the objective. With an abundance of 11 million+ players regularly playing on Steam, this is a very popular game on the platform.
1Apex Legends
Last but not least is the adrenaline-fueled Battle Royale gameApex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Since the previously mentioned PUBG started the Battle Royale genre,Apex Legendshas carried the torch in one of the most popular Battle Royales out there. Apex Legends had 25 million+ players within the first week, doubling up to 50 million+ in the first month. By April 2021, it had 100 million+ players, making it one of the most-played video games of all time by payer count.
In Apex Legends, you’re able to play in a squad of a maximum of three. You will choose a premade character that has abilities that will determine how you play the game. In your group, you are best-choosing characters that complement each other’s abilities to battle through the huge map to reach the end and become the ultimate legend.
