Vegeta being one of Dragon Ball’s best and most beloved characters of all time is not surprising considering the Saiyan Prince topped the character polls a lot of times.

Contrary to his initial intention of creating him as a one-off enemy, series creator Akira Toriyama was taken aback by the fact that he was receiving more votes than Goku, despite his peculiar character design. As a result,he decided to make him appear more frequently.
Amongst Vegeta’s appearances in the show, most fans would agree that his time as Majin Vegeta during the Buu Saga was one of, if not the most memorable and satisfying transformations, courtesy of those iconic speeches about Saiyan Pride and his rivalry with Goku.

Without further ado, here are 5 reasons Dragon Ball fans will always worship Majin Vegeta!
It Marked The Return Of The More Devious, Cold-Blooded Vegeta
Vegeta first appeared in the series, blowing up a planet, killing Nappa just because he was disappointed in him, and destroying countless Namekian lives and villages.
But that all changed after marrying Bulma and raising Trunks to be a law-abiding, peace-loving Super Saiyan. Even he admitted that spending time on Earth softened him up. Therefore, he allowed Babidi to control him to resurface that cold-hearted battle-crazed Saiyan he once was.

And the first thing he did was kill numerous attendants at the World Martial Arts Tournament by firing a Ki blast at the visitors’ arena, mimicking the destruction caused by Nappa when the duo landed on Planet Earth.
Vegeta Unleashed His Original Pride From The Saiyan Saga Days Through His Majin Form
After associating with Goku and his friends, Vegeta began to train hard, not to satisfy his bloodlust but to save those around him. He went out to space and turned Super Saiyan to face the Androids, spending 2 years in the Room of Spirit and Time to defeat Cell—all for saving Earth.
However, the Saiyans he knew were a barbaric race who exterminated other races and sold their planet to the highest bidder. They were cold-hearted and had simple thoughts and Vegeta wanted to go back to that phase, hence he uttered the famous “His Pride” speech.

You may have invaded my mind and my body, but there’s one thing a Saiyan always keeps… his pride!
Vegeta would later learn the true meaning of Saiyan Pride from Bardock during the Granolah arc but their chaotic nature was always there in his core.

Babidi Thought He Was Using Majin Vegeta, But Majin Vegeta was instead Using Babidi
Babidi is one of the strongest magicians in Dragon Ball (save for Moro) and he managed to bring Dabura, the king of the Demon Realm, into his control. So you’d think he would have complete control of Vegeta as well.
But what instead happened was that Vegeta tricked Babidi into believing that and rather used that whole mind-capture process to unleash his hidden power and face his long-time rival Goku on an equal footing.
Majin Vegeta Finally Defeated Goku For The First Time
Sure, one may argue that Goku did not transform into a Super Saiyan 3 during his rematch with Vegeta in the Buu Saga, a form stronger than the Prince, but Toriyama had not thought of Super Saiyan 3 until Goku faced Fat Buu for the first time.
That means, in Toriyama’s head, Vegeta and Goku were on equal footing with their Super Saiyan 2 forms and it was Vegeta who tricked Goku into wanting a Sensu Bean and knocked him out cold. As a result, it was Vegeta’s clear cut victory against his eternal rival (as clear as his win in the Super Hero arc).
His Sacrifice Against Buu Rounded Up His Epic Character Development
Throughout his life, Vegeta had fought to satisfy his own selfish desires, to gain immortality and become the strongest there is. He had admitted this during his “Kakarot! You Are No. 1!” speech.
Piccolo claims that during the initial confrontation with Buu, Vegeta fought for someone other than himself for the first time in his life. He knew he was not going to see Goku in the afterlife and was heading to Hell. But he sacrificed his life not for him and his ego but for Trunks, Bulma, and yes, even for Kakarot.
May this list convince even non-Vegeta fans how important his phase as Majin Vegeta was, as that characterization continued to be referenced in Dragon Ball Super’s Moro and Granolah arcs.
