The world ofElden Ringis filled with much wonder, but also a lot of downright creepy places. The dungeons barely scratch the surface of all the messed up things one can encounter when traveling across (below, and above) The Lands Between. FormSoftware is known for its minimal exposition, encouraging players to understand more of the world by reading item descriptions and connecting character dialogues as well as environmental set pieces.

But, that might not always be a good thing to do, especially if you value your mental health. So, to make things easier, here arefive creepy thingsyou can witness inElden Ring.
Land Octopi
You’ll run into a lot of adult and juvenileland octopiduring yourElden Ringjourney. While the babies are easy enough to deal with, the adults can pose a bit of a challenge early on in the game. On their own, they look creepy but also like a standard FromSoftware mob enemy: lots of tentacles and an erratic attack pattern. The real creepiness sets in when you read the description of the Land Octopus Ovary dropped on killing the adults. It states that these creatures reproduce by consuming human blood. Given how many there are in the world, that’s a lot of blood.
Chanting Winged Dames
These enemies can be found easily enough inElden Ring, typically accompanied by Giant Bats. While their singing is already an unnerving sound, the lyrics of their lament paint a grisly tale of their fate. The Latin song speaks on how they were cursed intotheir bat forms by a ‘Golden One’and previously, they were destined for motherhood. We would find this sad, if they weren’t trying to kill us every chance they got!

Return to Rykard
Elden Ring‘s Volcano Manor area is a bit of a fever dream, with the cherry on this grotesque cake being the Lord of Blasphemy himself, Rykard. Fused with a giant serpent that coils around itself, Rykard’s face is the only thing that comes anywhere close to being human. Most players won’t have an issuedealing with this bossusing the Serpent Hunter spear, but not many return to the scene after leaving the area.
When you do return, you find Rykard’s consort Tanith, laying beside the leftover corpse of Rykard, chowing down on the flesh of her dead husband. She believed doing so would allow Rykard to live on through her, and they could still complete their goal of devouring the gods TOGETHER! For now though, the sounds of her consuming the still wiggling flesh of Rykard is an incredibly creepy and gross thing to witness.

Gideon’s Revelation
Gideon Ofnir, everyone’s favorite turncoat, helps you out at the start ofElden Ring, but is there to stop you near the end. However, what makes him change his mind so drastically and why does he so strongly believe the Tarnished cannot kill a god? Reading the description of his All-Knowing Helm provides an answer that is creepy due to its vagueness.
It states that when he glimpsed into the will of Queen Marika, he shuddered in fear at the fate that should not be. This gives off heavy cosmic horror vibes, and the open-ended nature of the vision that he witnessed is definitely an unnerving piece of lore.

Mohg and Miquella
Anyone who has faced off against Mohg knows that he loves his half-brother; Miquella is who he refers to in his last dialogue after defeat. However, on reading thedescription of his remembrance, it is mentioned that he wished to be Miquella’s consort, and that no matter how much he tried to share his bloody bedchamber, Miquella did not acquiesce to his demands. Now, that kind of sibling love is well-away from cute and very much on the creepy side.
Elden Ring players can expect more such discoveries very soon
With the announcement and imminent launch of theShadow of the ErdtreeDLC, there’s going to be a lot of new content added to the game, and we are sure it’s going to include even more creepy and disturbingElden Ringlore. After all, it wouldn’t be a FromSoftware game if it didn’t fill you with dread and melancholy!
