PlayStation is known for having a lot of exclusives as its parent company, Sony, was not in the practice of porting its games to PC until recently. The series that came out on this console are some that have stayed with many gamers. Some series have not had the luck of others as there is no sequel in sight for them. Nonetheless, a lot of the series are those that are still remembered by many loyal fans.

These are game series that started on the PlayStation. Some series have been ported to other consoles, but other than that most of them remain true to the PlayStation system. The series on this list have made a dent in video game history as some of the best in not just the PlayStation realm but in overall gaming.
10Silent Hill
Silent Hillhad a great run as it started on the PlayStation in 1999. The game aimed to be more of a psychological horror game and the themes were very heavily based on Twin Peaks. The game was very revolutionary as it was a survival horror game that allowed the player to take control of the camera instead of being locked in weird camera angles. The series initially started with a lot of ambiguity but as it grew it began to get a lot less vague.
The growth in technology allowed for the game to become a lot better designed and the later games took a lot of the game’s previous concepts and worked on them to create a much fuller story.

9Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicootis a title that many don’t know was a game originally made by Naughty Dog, the creators behind The Last Of Us. The game has gone through various changes since it was first released on the PlayStation with there being versions of the game that had very little to do with platforming. The Crash Bandicoot series has always worked best as the 2.5-dimensional platformer that it started as.
The good thing is that after the Crash Bandicoot series got out of its weird mutant riding phase and came out with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy it gained a return to its roots and continued to make enjoyable games.

8Ape Escape
Ape Escapeis a platformer that has monkeys the players must capture instead of finding some sort of hidden star or object. The initial game had a lot of gadgets to choose from and as the series progressed that array of gadgets grew as well. The locations also scale in size with the first Ape Escape game taking place in different periods whereas Ape Escape 3 had players running around different themed film sets.

The Ape Escape series also evolved in the different types of unique monkeys that could be found around the map. This made for a lot of interesting ways to have to catch them. It’sa fun adventurewith small changes in each game that makes for a charming playthrough of every one of them.
7Jak and Daxter
TheJak and Daxterserieswas a platformerthat was originally on the PlayStation 2. The game series started as a platformer set in a mystical land filled with a funny yet somewhat serious story. The maps in the first game were fairly colorful and there were a lot of interesting platforming areas to figure out. As the series progressed the platforming was kept in the series, but there was a lot that had changed.
The colorful areas that were in the first game became non-existent as Jak 2 and Jak 3 take place in a much darker future. Players are thrown into using more advanced weaponry and the themes become much grittier.

6Kingdom Hearts
TheKingdom Heartsseries has been around for over 20 years and with that, it has brought with it a lot of different gameplay elements that have only continued to grow. The game took the JRPG formula and made it into combat that was fluid instead of turn-based. As the scope of the series has progressed so have the combat mechanics.

A lot of the combat especially that which is in Kingdom Hearts 3 is a lot more grandiose in its presentation. Kingdom Hearts is a series full of a lot of dense lore and interesting characters, but it’s a series that vehemently pushes players to be caught up with it or left in the dark.
5Ratchet And Clank
Ratchet and Clankis a series that has gotten huge treatment in the gaming world so much so that Hollywood decided to make a movie based on the game. The movie was fairly awful, but the remake of the original platformer shooter was impeccable. The Ratchet And Clank series keeps things interesting by always making sure to include new odd weapons that don’t seem like they belong in any other world.
The platforming that the games provide keeps a lot of the same principles but a lot of the time it feels like constant changes are being made.

4Resident Evil
The firstResident Evilgame started the survival horror game craze. The game was much different back then with fixed camera angles that the player had to abide by and doors where the players had to sit through animations of them opening and closing before going through them. It was clunky, but it was still one of the best games that had come out at that time.
Now, the games are much larger. The way that the games play out is much different as there are a lot of heavy action-packed moments but also a lot of terrifyingly tense moments that continue to come up in the series.

3Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solidhad an amazing run as every game that the series introduced made it so that the game was highly beloved by its community. Each game made sure to take the future model and turn it into something that felt as though it was important. The story of each game was dense and the game’s mechanics got better and better with each title.

By the time the game got to Metal Gear Solid 5, it had created an open-world experience with a slew of missions that players were able to take on however their hearts decided those missions should be completed.
2God of War
God of Warwas a highly entertaining hack and slash game with combat that surpassed that of many other games in its time. The game also focused heavily on collectibles as each one allowed for the player to get a boost in health, magic, or even points to level up. The game kept the same model for a while but as time went on all of that changed.
The newest God of War takes a lot of elements from the combat of the first initial games and adds more substance to it where enemies feel fully capable of fighting back yet also perfectly riposte-able. The game’s story has also now become one that players are interested in through and through.
1Demon’s Souls
Demon’s Soulskicked off the Souls series with a bang on the PlayStation 3. Demon’s Souls was not the game that people know as it is today as initially the game wasn’t as large or recognized as it is now. It quickly blew up in popularity among gamers who were looking for a challenge that was outside the normal type of RPG confrontation.
The Souls games continued to challenge players as the series spiritually continued and kept the difficult mechanics in place. As the games grew in popularity and progressed in the series the number of different ways that players could take on enemies did too and though the challenge wasn’t as apparent in Dark Souls 3 as it was in Demon’s Souls, it’s still there.
